Salam alikum and welcome to living the
life with Sajid V and uh this handsome
chappie here called Rahim Jung it's good
to have you with us tonight absolutely
we've got an exciting show we do
apparently uh we we've got a very
exciting show to today uh from what I
know from what I remember from what I
remember even having spoken to our
producer a few minutes ago we do we do
actually we've got we've got we've got
more competitions yes we do we do so
we're going to we have somebody from the
seat Community who's become a bit of a
YouTube sensation because of a frus he
had with a member of the of the public
who was most racist yeah I also talk you
about a very significant issue of the
SEC minority in Pakistan you you don't
hear that much about that do very
interested in this very uh cool fact as
well yeah well we do now that's right a
thought provoking show indeed and as I
said we're going competition crazy today
as well but first did you know there are
some
37,000 seik pakistanis living in
Pakistan it's amazing isn't it I didn't
I really didn't know that I mean I knew
there were a few obviously there's
minority populations in most countries
but I didn't know 37,000 West it BS an
interesting question you don't hear
about any kafues or violence or anything
like that do you well I hope we don't
hear that from our next guest absolutely
sadly the minority population has been
facing significant oppression recently
as Diane doobo has this report for
us seek Pilgrims from all over the world
praying side by side this is one of the
most sacred sites in sism located in
Hassan abdal and Pakistan where the
religion was founded 500 years ago but
in the Muslim country siks are now a
tiny minority numbering a mere
20,000 among them a man in grief his son
was one of the victims of a wave of
attacks against the community last year
back at his home in Peshawar harban
Singh is still in
shock we are Pakistani Nationals we live
here so why did this happen to us we're
devastated by this brutality how can
this happen to
us his son sudden death left three
children orphaned in the bazaar where
the attack took place the family's
Bakery remains closed across the street
another seek shopkeeper witnessed the
shooting we do think of moving but if we
do who will look after the business how
will we make ends meet and feed our
children we work but we are very afraid
we feel fear in our hearts
most seek families here are originally
from the country's restive Northwest but
military operations against the Taliban
have forced many to move to major cities
making them more visible and more
vulnerable in the second half of last
year five other seek Traders were
murdered in similar attacks there are no
official leads in any of the cases
increasing the community's sense of
insecurity nobody ever explains anything
to them the police doesn't know so in if
they are not going to identify the
attackers or the pattern if there is a
pattern they don't even know if there is
a pattern there right so that's their
their concern is that they would never
be able to they would never be sure as
to why they're being targeted other than
the fact that they are vulnerable the
security situation is bad and people do
not want to see minorities flourishing
at
all in Pasha seik neighborhood a gate
was installed in front of the Temple For
the First Time Ever After the killings
security measures also visible at the
seek Festival where a thousand police
were deployed to protect some 5,000
worshippers allowing both foreign and
local pilgrims to pray in peace and hope
for a safer future for the generations
to
come that's St corrected that's quite
sad very sickening actually it is it is
I didn't know there was such a a seek
holy site there in Pakistan no no wasn't
aware of that it's amazing though up
until now you haven't actually heard of
any uh real problems between the
communities but something's obviously
kicked off recently which is cool and
some things don't catch the news often
you know sometimes these things go under
the radar indeed they do indeed they do
well our next guest this evening is a
highly respected role model in the seek
Community personally endorsed by many
seik organizations here in Britain that
our research team have been speaking
with a man of real compassion and peace
that's right together with his team jug
meet Singh who is with everything's 13
promoting peace awareness and Community
cohesion within the seat community and
his efforts have not gone unnoticed one
of their latest videos has uh just got
under 350,000 views and here to tell us
all about it is jamit sakal how are
you you guys all right very well we're
doing very very well thank you for
coming it's great to have you very much
for having us here hope you don't feel
kind of intimidated in any no no I feel
like at home this is like you guys have
being lovely you know you welcome me in
it's like brothers good thank you very
much wish we had like some food for you
we could like sit have some they took me
they took care of me they vegetarian
dishs dishes or something no expense
sped um listen um come on on a serious
Point um it's you know it's something
that we haven't heard in the headlines
before about the seat Community being
oppressed within Pakistan and and of
course this this religious site that's
there well you know uh the seat
Community historically has gone through
a lot of repression you know and um the
siks in Pakistan especially it's not
very easy for them right now but they're
quite happy there it's it's two worlds
going on in Pakistan right now one is
you have the neighborhoods you know so
you've got siks living with Muslims and
they're like brothers they're like
sisters like families so they're really
enjoying each other if the siks didn't
want to be in Pakistan they would have
left a long time ago some want to leave
you know because you know it is very
difficult for them right now especially
with you know what's going on with the
Taliban and you know the murders um it's
up to the Pakistani people to stand with
the siks as their brothers you know in
Pakistan and all over um all over the
world or seek goodw feed everybody yeah
so espe it's just one of the main um
things that seeks do is protect and
serve Humanity so I'm sure there's poor
people in Pakistan that go to the good
Waters every single day and the seeks
are honored to actually serve them yeah
and that that really builds a beautiful
community and you have that here as well
I mean I know of a a gara which does
exactly that they are serving food
247 anybody from the community L to
Gathering which is which is brilliant
for for Community cohesion and giving
giving back Maharaj um in the UK we
serve about 20,000 tons of food every
year that's a lot isn't it so um you
know aik the main principles for siki is
to give is to serve you know our Guru
Guru nanik Dev G he told us that you
know our main concern is to chant the
name of God encourage others to chant
the name of God is to work hard an
honest living don't rip anybody off and
share with others so that's all about
Humanity Brotherhood and love and um so
these are seek principles but these are
human principles it's also important to
state that uh from recent studies we
understand that the seik community gives
back or contributes over 7 billion
pounds to the British economy it's
pretty immense I mean not only for the
British economy because siks are just
inherently we work hard you can put us
anywhere in the world and we just going
to work very very hard right I think
there's a lot of Truth in that isn't
there they do have a reputation for
being more not not only just working
hard and making something out of
ourselves our main purpose is to give
back to the community so some uh you
also find that as a as a seek as a group
we are um one of the highest that
actually give back in charity throughout
the UK all through the world because
it's just the principles that are
inherent in our in our being I think
you're you're echoing and I think
whenever you look at the when you break
down many of the faiths and you look at
the essence of the faith you find that
these these these principles of Charity
of selflessness of giving are there you
know within within our faith we're told
that the best people are the people who
give the most or who who benefit the
community the most and I think often
this is missed in in what is today a
very secular world uh particularly in
the western world or or particularly in
Western Europe anyway where religion
seems to be something from a from a from
a bygone time but actually then really
in many respects with austerity and the
difficulties there's never been a better
time for for those values really of
giving and sharing I couldn't agree more
and those are again very human values so
so um if if a religion is not actually
helping you become more compassionate to
your fellow man not helping you become
more loving more giving then what is the
value of that religion so if any
religion no matter what it is so seik
would never try to convert anybody to
their religion we' encourage them we
encourage a Muslim to become the best
Muslim and give and love the Christian
to do the same the sik's responsibility
is to do that so if the religion can act
as a technology to help you become more
compassionate more giving and the
beautiful thing that a know
intrinsically is by giving through
sharing through serving that act alone
makes you compassionate it does inde so
in the beginning you may not have the
compassion but once you learn to share
and people get that joy and that's
that's at the core of Islam as well when
people give there's so much bar blessing
in what you do that not only do is not
only the wealth or the charity that you
give it doesn't disappear but instead
you get it back in multiple in so many
different ways different ways maybe not
monetarily but I know something quite
interesting happened just recently in
hsow which kind of led to this massive
uh you know these YouTube views tell us
what happened well um we we do something
called Street pchar these days you know
us as a seat Community we haven't been
very vocal in who we are what we do we
just normally go about our business and
are really good people and we give back
to the community but we haven't done a
great job of telling people who we
actually are what our history is so
that's that're try to address through
our charity everything's Bas of so we go
out there now and do something called
Street Bard and that is literally going
out in the street and talking to people
engaging with the British public whoever
they are be the Christian Muslim or
whatever it is and actually saying hey
look do you know about siks you come
from let's take a look at this video
actually of of this of what you're doing
EXA think 13 take a look at this you're
not English sir if I tell you one thing
right if I saw you on the street and
anything happened to you I give my life
for you that's why I carry this weapon
if I saw anything happen to you if
there's 10 people attacking you i' give
my life for you that's why he seeks
carry this to protect
other wow I tell you what controversial
stuff there and those two police
officers standing by as well yeah I mean
the police officers were lovely they
were actually you know um telling the
gentleman about seek rights and what
what it is and the gentleman you know
this video really highlights the need
for seeks to be out there in the
community raising awareness of Who We
Are I've got an interesting question for
you actually going off script a little
bit there's been a massive rise in
islamophobia we know that in the last
few years I imagine that a percentage of
the seik population get swept up in that
because for many people from the outside
they don't know the difference between a
guy with a turban and a beard who's a
Muslim and a guy with a turban and a
beard who's a sik and you guys must be
feeling the effect of that as well well
I think we feel the the bulk of the
effect because your ordinary Muslim
that's a householder is not going to
wear a turban and a beard not espe long
beard like myself uncut beard and a
turban so what you have is with
islamophobia you have these terrorists
committing these atrocities in the name
of Islam which does not represent most
Muslims it actually most Muslims would
condemn them but the average person at
home is going to see this happening on
TV see a gentleman like myself with a
the star with the Dy and they're going
to say oh that's that's a terrorist
that's one of those terrorists that
we've seen so one of our main goals is
to be out there in the public and say
actually look don't mess with the
Muslims right the Muslims are not doing
these extremists are doing these if
anything we should all fight the
extremists and number two we are sik we
are not Muslim this is what we believe
and you know the righteous Muslim that
is our brother you know so everybody
that is chanting the name of God giving
back to humanity taking care of each
other well we' got another clip of
exactly that you talk about the
interaction between SS and Muslims have
a look at this okay if your name for God
is Allah right so we believe you wake up
in the early morning or wake up whenever
all through the day you think of Allah
you call Allah Allah Allah right and
then that's your truth and you develop
your relationship with God how like if
you're Christian it could be Jesus it
could be Jehovah whoever it be yeah so
we don't think that the uh the truth is
just with
us interesting interesting so I mean the
street I mean I've been out on the
streets before talking about Islam to
people it's pretty interesting that some
of the conversations that come up aren't
there I'm always surprised how willing
people are actually to engage I mean you
always get people who are quite bigoted
and who just have their opinion they
don't want to talk but I think the
majority of people are quite open aren't
they yeah everybody does want to you
know we do live in a Multicultural
Society so everybody wants to know about
each other and the thing is uh sometimes
going through our daily lives we're so
closed off that we don't have the
opportunity to stop and have that
conversation and those conversations are
very needed so like that gentleman that
we saw there he actually stopped with
his wife had his kid there and we had a
really beautiful conversation and he
brought up um some things about like um
conflicts between religions you know he
said look with the seik community with
the Islamic community Muslim Community
what's going on I said look there is no
conflict with religions it's a conflict
between oppressors back in the day there
was oppressors the mugal used to oppress
so it's up to the siks to stand up
against the oppressors and the true
Muslim would fight against the with the
siks against the oppressors I think so
once we open the dialogue and see how
similar that we really are and if our
values are just that that the values of
inclusiveness and of honesty and of
caring about Humanity then we can see
that the similarities of there move
forward together and when you talk about
oppression I think we always have to
stand on the side of justice justice is
Justice truth is truth and you must not
treat people unfairly no matter what
your belief system always treat people I
think what a beautiful opportunity this
is for the Islamic people in Pakistan
right now to stand firm with the siks
the siks have always been there like
they could have left Pakistan a long
time but that land to us is Holy it is
pure our Origins was from there hold
that thought because we're going to be
going to a
break living the life now jug me Singh
from everything 13 basics of siki is
still with us and have been having some
wise words here haven't we absolutely
yeah he's phenomenal guest we've been
having really lovely conversation the
break as well shame we can't just have a
show just of him think about the
university think about space do you have
that question I mean is are you are you
Bogle does your mind Boggle at the
question of you know what sort of other
life forms are out there or or is it
something that you're not that concerned
about no no um well our gurus have told
us that there are millions of other
planets and they are actually life on
other planets right and we have to
understand what the point of life here
on Earth is we're here to collect Good
Karma to do good deeds to remember God
and one day return back to God so he set
up this system here so a beautiful
system that he set up here on Earth and
what's to say that this system is not
repeated all through the universe and it
may not be very close that we can see it
but we shouldn't be concerned about
finding it really because if he wanted
us to find it if he it if he wanted us
to find it we would have found it find
it and the bottom line is we should
really be concerned about what we're
doing here on Earth what we're doing
with our personal lives and what the end
goal for us is more than that perhaps
what perhaps one of my great movies of
all time is Back to the Future uh if if
you could jump into a DeLorean and go
back in time go up to 85 miles an hour
and go back in time what would you where
would you like to be well I guess you
know I would like to see things like the
Apollo launches I think that would be
exciting you know those kind of things
but there's all kinds of times really um
dramatic events events in the sky maybe
being around when Galileo was getting
his first telescope together you know
all these kind of things these this
would be fun um but there there old
Banner moments in history about same
question for you you know I used to I
used to dream about that I used to think
how lovely would it be and me I'm a bit
selfish so I would have gone back into
my own time period and try to fix things
that went
wrong there you go but now I see the
value in all the things that did go
wrong because lead you to the you want
absolutely you with happiness

British media and media throughout the
world can go and get the real story from
the seeks Direct

that we want to do is spread awareness
about what seeks do and why we're here
and actually the value that we're adding
to this multi Multicultural um country
that we live in well you've certainly
done a good job of telling us all about
that today I'm thank you as well for for
coming to the aid of the Muslims who are
under attack with islamophobia as well
definitely you done some great work
there too you know that that's our
responsibility to take care of each
other you know once we recognize that we
are one we we we actually share
the same God right you know um during
the London riots the siks would stand
out in front of the mosques while the
Muslims went in to pray and that goes
against the typical stereotypical view
that people have of sik and Muslim
relations so we want to get the truth
out there that we have more in common
than we do that separates us that's it
we need to get that message out there
