- Brothers and sisters who are blessed by
- Allah. The Almighty and Exalted. Meet
- again with us in today's QBU reflection
- on this Tuesday. We are gathered on
- this Tuesday with Ustaz Rahmatullah.
- And we hope that our brothers and
- sisters listening right now, whether at
- home or on the road, are in good health
- and always under the protection of
- Allah the Almighty and Exalted. On this
- Tuesday, the theme to be presented by
- Ustaz Rahmatullah is about the
- footsteps of Satan. Is that correct,
- Ustaz? Yes.
- And we meet again on this Tuesday
- edition, October 16, 2018.
- Let us first greet Ustaz Rahmatullah.
- Peace, mercy, and blessings of Allah be
- upon you, Ustaz.
- Peace, mercy, and blessings of Allah be
- upon you too.
- Are you well, Ustaz? Yes,
- praise be to Allah.
- Uh. If last Tuesday we discussed the
- temptations of Satan, Ustaz. But today
- we are discussing the footsteps of
- Satan. What exactly should we avoid,
- Ustaz? Yes, in the name of Allah, may
- the peace, mercy, and blessings of
- Allah be upon you. In the name of Allah
- , the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
- So, uh, because Allah the Almighty and
- Exalted states that "O you who have
- believed, enter into Islam completely,"
- "and do not follow the footsteps of
- Satan. Indeed, he is a clear enemy to
- you." O you who believe, enter into
- Islam totally. Like that. And do not
- follow the footsteps of Satan. Indeed,
- Satan is a clear enemy for you. It
- means from this verse that we, as
- servants of Allah, try with all our
- might to have complete faith in Allah.
- However, Allah warns here, uh, that we
- must not follow the footsteps of Satan.
- Therefore, we must know what the
- footsteps of Satan are like. Because we
- are commanded by Allah not to follow
- the footsteps of Satan.
- Uh-huh. While we do not know what the
- footsteps of Satan are. So when we do
- something that is essentially the
- footsteps of Satan. Because we do not
- know, we end up following the footsteps
- of Satan. S.
- Is this ignorance due to what, Ustaz?
- Yes, this ignorance is because we do
- not, uh, analyze what the footsteps of
- Satan really are as laid out in the
- Holy Qur'an. So how can we avoid the
- footsteps of Satan while we do not know
- them? Yes.
- Therefore, on this occasion, we want to
- , uh, analyze how Allah the Almighty
- and Exalted in the Holy Qur'an, uh,
- tells us about the traps or steps taken
- by Satan. Like that. We need to know
- that Satan is "from among the jinn and
- mankind." So, Satan is actually an
- adjective. The perpetrator can be from
- humans and can also be from the jinn.
- Now, if it is from the jinn, it can be
- through, uh, whispers. If it is from
- humans, it means humans who, uh, behave
- like Satan—what is that like?
- Hmm.
- So both of these we must guard against,
- both from humans and, uh, from the jinn
- . Because all this time, it has been
- assumed that devils always come from
- the jinn race. Whereas from the human
- race
- there are many.
- Uh, there are just as many
- like what? Well, vile and evil deeds
- are truly the deeds of devils. That
- people who like to commit corruption
- are also called devils. People who
- commit sins
- are truly doing the deeds of devils,
- you see. And that is done by humans,
- right?
- Right. So, a devil is not always just a
- physical form,
- but can also be the nature of a human's
- actions that are indeed
- far from religious values. Like that.
- Yes. So, that is what we need to
- emphasize here, that all this time, a
- devil is only understood as a jinn or
- Iblis.
- Yeah. Whereas the devil itself can also
- come from humans. H
- in human form. So, even if a human's
- behavior is, let's say, the behavior of
- a devil, we must avoid it. When we are
- unable to avoid it, it is difficult to
- enter into the group of people who
- believe in totality. Hmm. That is what
- we need to know. And when we know the
- steps of the devil, we ask for help
- from Allah Subhanahu wa ta'ala to be
- able to avoid it, yes, to fortify
- ourselves against those steps of the
- devil.
- Sometimes I ask in my heart, Ustaz.
- What is the difference between a devil,
- a jinn, and Iblis? Well, this is
- sometimes what makes us still confused.
- He he. If a devil, that is an adjective
- , right? A devil means a creature that
- is disobedient to Allah Subhanahu wa
- ta'ala, that is a devil. Now, meanwhile
- , jinn and humans are "wama khalaqtul
- jin wal insa illa lya'budun"(and I did
- not create the jinn and mankind except
- to worship Me). So, truly, between jinn
- and humans, before Allah, they are
- actually the same.
- Yeah.
- In the sense that both serve Allah,
- both are tested by Allah, both can
- enter heaven, and both can enter hell,
- like that. Now, meanwhile, Iblis, Iblis
- is from the jinn group.
- Now, if it's Iblis, it is definitely,
- absolutely a devil. Now, as for jinn,
- there are pious jinn, there are
- disobedient jinn, the same as humans.
- Humans who are pious, there are those
- who commit corruption, it's the same.
- So, the connotation of this devil is a
- person who violates Allah's commands,
- is disobedient to Allah, and commits
- sins against Allah. Every person who
- violates what is commanded by Allah,
- well, that is called a devil.
- Ustaz, you also hold a study every
- Sunday, right, a study at the mosque
- near my house
- and many congregants come. Yes.
- Are there, Ustaz, any questions from
- the congregants who have asked you, "
- Ustaz, uh what are the signs that a
- person is tempted by the devil?"
- Hm. So, ah, that has a different
- connotation. Different. If it goes
- there, it's different.
- Uh perhaps it's like this, humans have
- a soul, and have desires. when lust can
- control the soul, then there, between
- lust and the devil, a good cooperation
- occurs. Now, in conditions like that,
- Allah states in Surah 43:36 it is
- mentioned wa may ya'shu 'an
- zikrir-rahmani nuqayyiḍ lahu
- syaitanan fahuwa lahu qarin. Whoever
- turns away from the remembrance of the
- Most Gracious, meaning Allah, it means
- people who never remember Allah. People
- who do not remember Allah are those
- whose lust controls their soul.
- Nuqayyiḍ lahu syaitanan fahuwa lahu
- qarin. So that devil will always be
- with the person who never remembers
- Allah.
- Like that. So in a position like that,
- truly, perhaps it's like two peas in a
- pod between the human
- and the qarin.
- The devil can take the form of a human,
- the devil can take the form of a jinn.
- They are there together, when someone
- forgets to remember Allah. Now, in
- conditions like that truly, everywhere
- this person goes, they are already with
- the devil. Nuqayyiḍ lahu syaitanan
- fahuwa lahu qarin. Hm. When this person
- , what is it called? receives, uh a
- test from Allah, a disaster, let's say.
- Now, a person like this is someone who
- cannot endure the test from Allah.
- Because this lust is indeed this lust
- is one thing that makes humans suffer,
- it is because of lust. Now, when
- receiving a test from Allah, then that
- human will become, uh, when receiving
- such inner pressures, then that person
- can be brought to a state of being
- dazed. Yeah. Now, when dazed like that,
- an interaction occurs between lust and
- the devil, a possession occurs.
- Yes, it can end up like that.
- So, initially, initially they are just
- normal.
- Yeah.
- But the condition is actually that this
- person never remembers Allah. They seem
- normal. But when they face a life
- problem, they are unable, cannot endure
- that disaster, then they become dazed.
- When they are dazed, then a direct
- interaction contact will occur with
- that devil in the form of a jinn. So it
- enters
- it can also happen, it can also happen
- like that.
- Although, can possession only happen to
- people who never remember Allah, or can
- possession also happen to people who
- are obedient in worshiping Allah?
- Uh, if that person is truly pious to
- Allah, it is impossible. In the sense
- of faith that is kaffah, right. Ya
- ayyuhalladzina amanu udkhulu fis-silmi
- kaffah, Islam kaffah, like that. Yeah.
- So, truly, it is said in the Quran that
- the devil has no sultan, has no power,
- cannot control those who believe in
- Allah Subhanahu wa ta'ala. So, truly it
- becomes a guarantee from Allah.
- Yeah.
- When that person's faith is truly clean
- . Therefore, how to cleanse that, then
- it must be clean from the footsteps of
- the devil. Like that. That is what we
- need to know. No matter how small or
- large the steps the devil uses to
- deceive humans.
- Is there a specific prayer, Ustaz, when
- someone is possessed? The most
- appropriate one?
- Yeah.
- Because sometimes even after reciting
- the Quran, they are still stubborn and
- refuse to leave. But there are people
- who just press something. "Ah, it burns
- ," like that. How is that possible?
- Yes. I mean, through ruqyah, right?
- Ruqyah, yes.
- Yes. But truthfully, here is the thing,
- some people think the devil actually
- has power, but it has no power at all.
- Yeah.
- What is the most, what is it called?
- The most stubborn thing is actually our
- desire.
- When human desire can be controlled by
- the soul, it is actually finished.
- Actually, from the devil's side,
- Yeah.
- It does not have any power at all. So,
- if someone is undergoing ruqyah and the
- devil won't leave, it's because their
- desire is extraordinary. The desire
- inside.
- The desire inside the human being.
- Because of the soul's inability to draw
- closer to Allah Subhanahu wa ta'ala,
- God lets go and refuses to help His
- servant. So, whoever turns away from
- the remembrance of the Most Merciful,
- We appoint for him a devil. So, they
- are already together with the devil. If
- they are already with the devil, it
- means Allah no longer wants to help
- that servant. So when, let's say,
- someone is possessed like that, it is
- their soul that must be awakened to
- know Allah and remember Allah Subhanahu
- wa ta'ala.
- Yeah. If their soul is, what do you
- call it, uplifted to remember Allah,
- then the tension of desire drops.
- Yeah.
- Automatically, the devil will disappear
- on its own. So, it is not actually the
- devil that is powerful, but our desire
- that is too dominant within ourselves.
- Alright. If so, how can we subdue that
- desire?
- Well, to, what do you call it? To
- subdue that desire,
- you must engage in much remembrance of
- Allah Subhanahu wa ta'ala.
- So, dhikr is the path or perhaps one of
- the most effective ways to subdue
- desire while drawing closer to Allah.
- Yes. Yes. So, by remembering Allah,
- that desire will be controlled.
- Controlled. Truly, if humans knew that
- the essence of human suffering is
- desire, then the capacity of the soul
- ...the fitrah of the soul is to bear
- witness to Allah. "Am I not your Lord?"
- They say, "Yes, we testify." Yeah.
- So, that is the soul's first fitrah,
- bearing witness to Allah Subhanahu wa
- ta'ala. Hmm. Now, when this desire is
- extraordinary, what do you call it? Its
- strength, then the capacity of the soul
- will decline. In other words, the soul
- will be veiled from wanting to go
- toward Allah Subhanahu wa ta'ala. In
- such a condition, the devil will
- control that desire. Hmm. So, what
- steps are actually, making what you
- call the devil's traps that we must
- know about. Like that.
- Alright. If we talk about dhikr, Ustaz,
- what is the lightest dhikr to say but
- heaviest on the scale?
- Yes.
- There is in the hadith of the Prophet
- sallallahu alaihi wasallam, there are
- four sentences most beloved to Allah.
- Subhanallah,
- subhanallah,
- alhamdulillah, lailahaillallah, Allahu
- Akbar. And among these four, the most
- virtuous dhikr is lailahaillallah. The
- most virtuous dhikr is lailahaillallah.
- Istighfar.
- Istighfar is praising Allah, right?
- This istighfar
- is asking for forgiveness from Allah.
- If before, subhanallah, alhamdulillah,
- lailahaillallah are praises.
- Yes.
- Praises of glorifying and exalting. Now
- , this istighfar is asking for
- forgiveness from Allah Subhanahu wa
- taala. Istighfar will also remove the
- impurities or black spots in our souls,
- like that. So if, what is it called?
- Our hearts are shackled by many sins
- and impurities of the soul. Then to
- clean it is by frequently seeking
- forgiveness from Allah Subhanahu wa
- taala. So what makes us love the world
- more and fear death is the base desires
- (hawa nafsu).
- Base desires.
- Those base desires are what is it
- called? Their orientation is indeed
- toward the world, not the afterlife.
- Base desires have no knowledge of the
- afterlife. Ignorant. Indeed, in the
- Quran, base desires are ignorant. But
- they claim to be smart, stubborn, and
- want to win by themselves.
- Vengeful and hateful, that is the
- nature of desire. The character of
- desire, the attributes of desire.
- Now, this is intentionally created by
- Allah so we may struggle. So tazkiyatun
- nafs, how the soul cleanses itself from
- the attributes of base desires. Because
- there will always be a battle between
- desires and the soul within us.
- Yes. Internally, they are fighting
- against each other.
- So that, what is it called, that is the
- value of a person before Allah
- Subhanahu wa taala. Angels are not
- given base desires, so their job is
- just to obey Allah Subhanahu wa taala.
- Now, we, besides having to obey Allah,
- we face challenges. So, how great we
- face those challenges, that is truly
- our value in the sight of Allah
- Subhanahu wa taala. So, what is it
- called? Fighting against base desires
- is an extraordinarily huge war. Now, to
- face that, the soul must be
- cleansed,
- introduced to Allah Subhanahu wa taala.
- Yes, alright. Yes, brothers and sisters
- . We talked a bit about how to subdue
- the self, then praise Allah, and subdue
- our desire for worldly love. Actually,
- the topic is about avoiding or
- protecting ourselves from following the
- footsteps of Shaytan. Like that, Ustaz,
- right? And this will be discussed
- further for the next hour until 8:30.
- And of course, brothers and sisters, we
- invite you to join us by phone at
- 02184512, WhatsApp at 0811999720. As
- for SMS, we apologize as it is
- currently experiencing disruptions.
- Alright, brothers and sisters, we will
- take a short break. After this, we will
- return to your listening space.
