- sallallahu alaihi wasallam, his family,
- his companions, and upon all of us.
- Amen, O Lord of the worlds. We will
- discuss concerning a heart that hardens
- . Yes, a heart that hardens. As we know
- together that the heart is a, uh,
- barometer of life for those who believe
- . From this heart, we can measure
- ourselves how the heart feels a faith.
- How the heart feels a beauty, a
- steadfastness as what has been stated
- by Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala. Behold,
- surely the friends of Allah. Know that
- the friends of Allah, they will have no
- fear, nor will they grieve. They have
- no fear and never experience grief. Who
- are the friends of Allah? Those who
- believe and fear Allah. They are those
- who have faith and are pious toward
- Allah. For them are glad tidings in the
- life of this world and in the hereafter
- . There is no change in the words of
- Allah. They are those who are happy in
- this world and in the hereafter. Happy,
- so the heart becomes a guide for those
- who believe. Even Allah subhanahu wa
- ta'ala regarding the goodness or
- badness of a servant, the center of
- attention is uh, their heart. So this
- heart becomes the measure of piety
- toward Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala. As
- the Prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam
- said, "Piety is here." Piety is here,
- while pointing to the chest. So, the
- heart is indeed a place of piety to
- draw closer to Allah Subhanahu wa
- ta'ala. Of course, this heart has been
- facilitated by Allah Subhanahu wa
- ta'ala. Therefore, just as physically,
- the heart is essentially the organ of
- the heart. So there are those with a
- weak heart or heart disease. So here,
- that of course, this heart is in a
- condition that indeed meets the
- requirements, it will be easy to feel
- humility before Allah Subhanahu wa
- ta'ala. Like what we have explained a
- few weeks ago, that a heart that
- hardens is a result of the influence of
- the shadr. This shadr, which should
- function as a filter, that is removing
- bad traits. Then, bad traits are
- replaced with good traits, then they
- enter the heart. So that the influences
- of the shadr or the light that Allah
- puts into the heart have truly
- previously passed through the filter
- called the shadr. When the shadr is no
- longer able to function as a filter for
- bad traits, for example, jealousy,
- hatred; those are bad traits that make
- our hearts harden. Where the hardening
- of the heart is an influence of the bad
- traits that exist in the shadr. Because
- the shadr is no longer able to be a
- filter. Now, on this occasion, the
- heart will harden if the heart is not
- used as it should be. If previously the
- heart would harden from the influence
- of bad traits entering the heart, so
- the heart hardens, then now, the heart
- will harden when the heart is not used
- according to what has been facilitated
- by Allah Subhanahu wa ta'ala. In Surah
- Al-Hadid verse 16, it is mentioned, I
- seek refuge in Allah from the accursed
- Satan. Has the time not come for those
- who have believed that their hearts
- should become humble at the remembrance
- of Allah and what has come down of the
- truth? And let them not be like those
- who were given the Scripture before,
- and a long period passed over them, so
- their hearts hardened; and many of them
- are defiantly disobedient. Has the time
- not yet come for the believers to be
- humble in their remembrance of Allah
- and to the truth that has descended
- upon them? And do not let them be like
- those who were previously given the
- Book. Then a long time passed over them
- , and their hearts became hard. And
- most of them are defiantly disobedient.
- So in this verse, essentially, when the
- heart functions as, as mentioned, the
- heart is where Allah's revelation is
- descended into the heart. When the
- heart is no longer used to receive
- Allah's revelation or read the
- Al-Qur'an, then the heart here will
- become hardened. When the heart has
- hardened, the next consequence is that
- when we perform dhikr to Allah
- Subhanahu wa ta'ala, it will feel
- difficult to be humble before Allah
- Subhanahu wa ta'ala. So the hardness
- that turns our heart to stone makes it
- difficult to feel humility when
- performing dhikr to Allah Subhanahu wa
- ta'ala. Even in this verse, Allah
- Subhanahu wa ta'ala indicates that it
- is possible for someone whose heart has
- hardened because they have never
- interacted with the Noble Al-Qur'an.
- Then that heart will become defiantly
- disobedient. so, when we have no
- interest in studying the Qur'an or just
- leave the Qur'an be when the heart is
- supposed to have a nature, meaning that
- between the Qur'an and the heart, the
- Qur'an always interacts with the heart.
- This is something that has indeed been
- facilitated by Allah Subhanahu wa
- ta'ala. Meaning, according to the
- sunnatullah, the heart should
- constantly interact with the glorious
- Qur'an. When the nature of the heart no
- longer interacts with the glorious
- Qur'an, then the heart will harden. So,
- if previously the heart hardened
- because of the influence of bad traits
- from within the chest entering the
- heart, causing it to harden. In the
- current condition, when the heart is no
- longer functioning to interact with the
- glorious Qur'an, the heart will harden.
- When the heart hardens, Allah states
- that it becomes easy for that person to
- commit wicked deeds. In such a
- condition, when the heart no longer has
- any interest in the glorious Qur'an, it
- shows that our heart is hardening,
- turning to stone and our heart will
- find it difficult to feel humility when
- remembering the presence of Allah
- Subhanahu wa ta'ala. Therefore Allah
- Subhanahu wa ta'ala mentions in Surah
- Al-Baqarah. "then your hearts became as
- stones or even harder""and indeed,
- there are stones out of which rivers
- gush forth, and there are some of them
- which split""and water comes out of
- them, and some of them fall down for
- fear of Allah, and Allah is not unaware
- of what you do." Then after that, your
- heart becomes hard like a stone, says
- Allah. Even harder than a stone.
- Whereas among those stones, there are
- indeed some from which rivers flow. And
- among them, there are indeed some that
- split. Then springs gush forth from
- them, and among them, there are some
- that fall down out of fear of Allah.
- And Allah is not at all unaware of what
- you do. So, the hardening of the heart
- is harder than stone. Yet Allah
- Subhanahu wa ta'ala says, so hard is
- the stone that out of fear of Allah,
- water flows through the cracks of the
- stone, there is liquid because of its
- fear of Allah Subhanahu wa ta'ala. If
- even the hard stone fears Allah, then
- it is stated here that a hardened heart
- is even harder than stone. So in such a
- condition, truly, as warned by Allah
- Subhanahu wa ta'ala, we must be careful
- with this hardened heart. Let us look
- at the next verse. Because Allah
- Subhanahu wa ta'ala "some of them are
- righteous, and some of them are
- otherwise; we were of divided ways." So
- Allah will test the righteous, and
- those who are not righteous will still
- be tested by Allah Subhanahu wa ta'ala.
- So here, what happens when Allah
- Subhanahu wa ta'ala tests us while our
- hearts are hardening? What is felt? I
- seek refuge in Allah from the accursed
- Satan. In Surah Al-An'am verses 42 and
- 44. "And We had already sent to nations
- before you, then We seized them with"
- poverty and hardship. "then there came
- to them Our punishment""and why, when
- Our punishment came to them, did they
- not humble themselves?""So when they
- forgot that by which they had been
- reminded, We opened to them the gates
- of every thing, until, when they
- rejoiced in that which they were given,
- We seized them suddenly, and they were
- then in despair.""So the people that
- committed wrong were eliminated. And
- praise to Allah, Lord of the worlds."
- So in this verse Allah Subhanahu wa
- ta'ala will test humans with misery and
- poverty. Now, When trials of misery and
- poverty descend upon us while our
- hearts are hardened. Even though Allah
- Subhanahu wa ta'ala's intention is to
- give a warning to those hardened hearts
- . Because our hearts are hard, when we
- are tested by Allah with misery and
- poverty, our hearts refuse to accept
- the test given by Allah Subhanahu wa
- ta'ala. Whereas Allah's purpose in
- testing with misery and poverty is so
- that they return to Allah's path, full
- of repentance before Allah Subhanahu wa
- ta'ala. Full of submission to Allah.
- But because the heart has hardened, it
- refuses the test given by Allah
- Subhanahu wa ta'ala. So when Allah's
- test comes in the form of misery and
- poverty, one refuses the warning,
- refuses such tests from Allah because
- of the hardness of our hearts. Then
- what? Then the devil comes in. The
- devil comes to make it look good, to
- make it look beautiful to the deeds
- done by the hardened heart. So when
- this hardened heart is tested by Allah,
- which is actually a reminder, a warning
- from Allah, but it refuses to
- understand Allah's warning, then what
- happens? Then all those pleasures will
- be completely opened up by Allah
- Subhanahu wa ta'ala. And when this
- hardened heart rejoices in receiving
- the pleasures that have been opened by
- Allah Subhanahu wa ta'ala, then at the
- moment this hardened heart is enjoying
- such pleasures, that is when their soul
- is taken by Allah Subhanahu wa ta'ala.
- So when Allah gives a warning that
- should lead back to Allah's path, then
- for a hardened heart, it becomes even
- further from Allah Subhanahu wa ta'ala.
- Because it rejects Allah's warning, at
- the moment of rejoicing and having fun,
- that is when the soul is taken by Allah
- Subhanahu wa ta'ala. And that is what
- is called punishment. So Allah will
- wipe out those whose hearts have
- hardened down to their roots. So what
- we need to understand from this verse
- is that a hardened heart will not want
- or be able to understand the warnings
- or tests given by Allah Subhanahu wa
- ta'ala. Because that hardened heart
- which should be melted and softened,
- must interact frequently with the Holy
- Qur'an. Because the heart no longer
- interacts with the Qur'an that has been
- facilitated by Allah Subhanahu wa
- ta'ala, it feels difficult for that
- heart to return to the path of Allah
- Subhanahu wa ta'ala. Therefore, the
- preventative measure is how to ensure
- our hearts do not harden. Because
- trials are a destined portion for
- humans. So we always pray to Allah
- Subhanahu wa ta'ala, that when Allah
- tests us as His servants, we pray that
- our hearts remain in a state of qolbun
- salim, qolbun munib, not a hardened
- heart. Then the hearts, so that our
- hearts should draw us closer to Allah
- Subhanahu wa ta'ala. Because our hearts
- are hardening, we are no longer able to
- understand the warnings given by Allah
- Subhanahu wa ta'ala. Perhaps that is it
- , Allah knows best. Alright, brothers
- and sisters who are blessed by Allah
- Subhanahu wa ta'ala. That was the
- explanation given by Ustaz Rahmatullah
- tonight regarding hearts that have
- hardened or turned to stone. Earlier,
- the Ustaz last quoted Quran Surah
- Al-An'am verses 42 to 44. Alright
- brothers and sisters, we will take a
- short break and we will be back in the
- next session, the second session.
- Prepare your questions on the phone
- line 0218451512, SMS and also WhatsApp
- at 0811999720. Berasil TV for one Islam
- . Yes. Alright, brothers and sisters
- who are blessed by Allah Subhanahu wa
- ta'ala. Thank you for staying with us
- in the Qalbu Reflection program tonight
- with Ustaz Rahmatullah, and the time in
- our studio shows 20:37. I am Biagus,
- accompanied by Ondi and also Sangkit at
- the operator's desk, who will continue
- to accompany you, brothers and sisters,
- in the Qalbu Reflection program. We
- will start with the first question.
- This question comes from Bang Adi in
- Pasar Minggu. Assalamualaikum
- warahmatullahi wabarakatuh.
- Ustaz, um
- Ustaz, how can we restore the function
- of the heart so that it can receive the
- light of Allah?
- That is all. uh The heart is a place to
- contain the revelations of Allah, right
- ? Yes. In Surah Al-Baqarah verse 97. So
- the Quran was revealed by Allah
- Subhanahu wa ta'ala into the heart,
- revealed through the angel Gabriel. So
- that is truly the function that has
- indeed been facilitated by Allah
- Subhanahu wa ta'ala. Therefore, this
- heart is a tool to communicate with
- Allah Subhanahu wa ta'ala. So, how can
- that hardened heart become soft? Here
- it is said in Surah Al-Hadid verse 16,
- "Alam ya'illadhina amanu an takhsha
- qulubuhum...""...li-dhikrillahi...""...
- wa ma nazala min al-haqq...""...wa la
- yakunu ka-lladhina utul-kitaba min
- qablu fa-tala 'alayhimu al-amadu
- fa-qasat qulubuhum wa kathirum minhum
- fasiqun." So here, in order for the
- heart to become luminous, the heart
- must be returned to its fitrah (nature)
- , which is to perform dhikr (
- remembrance) to the presence of Allah
- Subhanahu wa ta'ala. As stated in Surah
- Al-Ahzab, Surah 33. Starting from verse
- 41, it says Auzubillahi
- minash-shaytanir-rajim. "Ya
- ayyuhalladzina amanu-dzkurullaha
- dzikran katsira." O you who believe,
- remember Allah with as much remembrance
- as possible. "Wasabbihuhu bukratan wa
- ashila." And glorify Him or perform
- tasbih to Him in the morning and
- evening. "Huwalladzi yusolli' alaikum
- wa malaikatuhu liyukhrijakum
- minadh-dhulumati ilan-nur wa kana
- bil-mu'minina rahima." It is He who
- grants blessings to you, and His angels
- ask for forgiveness for you, so that He
- brings you out from darkness into light
- , and He is ever Merciful to the
- believers. So when we return to the
- nature of the heart, which is knowing
- Allah. Yes, knowing Allah by increasing
- dhikr to Allah Subhanahu wa ta'ala,
- then the heart that was previously hard
- and dark with that dhikr, "
- liyukhrijakum minadh-dhulumati ilan-nur
- ." The darkness will be removed by
- Allah Subhanahu wa ta'ala and replaced
- with light. and by reciting dhikr
- frequently. Ya ayyuhalladzina
- amanukurullahaikran katir. Increase
- your dhikr to Allah Subhanahu wa ta'ala
- . so how can the heart, uh, be saved
- from hardening, by increasing dhikr to
- Allah Subhanahu wa ta'ala. Wadur
- rabbaka fi nafsika tadarru’an wa
- khifatan. Remember your Lord within
- yourself with humility and awe, yes,
- with a sense of humbleness and fear of
- Allah. So, how the soul within this
- heart increases dhikr to the presence
- of Allah Subhanahu wa ta'ala. Then,
- what was previously a hardened heart
- will become softened. The heart that
- was once dark, when it is given light
- by Allah Subhanahu wa ta'ala, that is
- when the heart returns to its true
- nature. The heart is the place where
- Allah revealed His revelation into the
- heart of our Prophet, the Messenger of
- Allah, Muhammad sallallahu alaihi
- wasallam. Likewise for us as servants
- of Allah, as the ummah of Muhammad the
- Messenger of Allah sallallahu alaihi
- wasallam, the heart becomes essential
- to constantly engage in dhikr to the
- presence of Allah Subhanahu wa ta'ala
- so that it avoids hardening like stone.
- H
- harder than stone, says Allah Subhanahu
- wa ta'ala. That means if the heart has
- hardened, it is even harder than stone.
- So to soften the heart, return it to
- its true nature, which is to increase
- dhikr to Allah Subhanahu wa ta'ala.
- Then Allah will send light into the
- heart so that the heart functions
- according to its true nature, which is
- to know Allah Subhanahu wa ta'ala.
- Perhaps that is it. Wallahualam.
- Alright, Bang Adi in Pasar Minggu, I
- hope that answers it. Then we move to
- the next question, Ustaz. Uh, a
- question from a servant of Allah.
- Assalamu alaikum warahmatullahi
- wabarakatuh.
- Wa alaikumussalam.
- Alright. From a mother in West Jakarta.
- Are people who are ambitious and
- justify any means for their ambition
- and act dishonestly considered people
- who have hardened hearts? Please
- enlighten us, Ustaz.
- Yes. that is, uh that is a, uh, what? a
- disease, yes. Lying, cheating,
- dishonesty that is, uh, a disease
- inside the chest, yes. That is what
- makes the heart become hard, yes. Uh,
- because here Allah Subhanahu wa ta'ala,
- uh, can be seen in Surah Az-Zumar verse
- 22, yes. Auzubillahi
- minash-shaitanir-rajim. Afaman
- syarhallahu lil islam fahua ala nurin
- mirrabbihi fawailul-lilqasiyati
- qulubuhum min dzikrillahi. So, are
- those whose chests Allah has opened,
- yes, to accept the religion of Islam
- and they receive light from their Lord,
- the same as those whose hearts have
- hardened? Woe to those who have
- hardened their hearts from remembering
- Allah. They are in clear error. So, if
- it was said earlier, lying, yes,
- manipulation, yes, cheating here and
- there, that uh, what is it called? Uh,
- makes the heart dark.
- H
- the heart hardens so it is difficult to
- be able to, uh, what is it called?
- recite dhikr with khusyuk to Allah
- Subhanahu wa ta'ala. So, these bad
- traits—as previously mentioned, like
- hatred, envy, and dishonesty—actually
- damage our own selves, damaging our
- hearts, which should be able to focus
- easily and humbly on Allah Subhanahu wa
- ta'ala. Therefore, the bad traits
- residing within our chests are truly
- what create a barrier, a veil. When the
- heart has been veiled by Allah
- Subhanahu wa ta'ala, it becomes
- difficult for a person to experience
- peace of mind in life. Yes. What occurs
- instead is restlessness. Yes. Yes.
- Restlessness. Then, fear is what is
- instilled by Allah Subhanahu wa ta'ala.
- Because that darkness is truly
- synonymous with the aforementioned
- restlessness. Therefore, that is what
- must be cleansed first. Dishonesty,
- envy, or manipulation like what is
- happening now, those are truly deeds
- that are far from the guidance of the
- Noble Al-Qur'an. So for those who
- believe, how do we act? That means what
- ? Doing something must be measured. The
- measure is the Noble Al-Qur'an. Because
- we will not live forever in this world.
- Walal akhiratu khairulaka minal ula.
- Indeed, the life of the hereafter is
- far better than this worldly life. So,
- protecting the heart so it does not
- harden is something we must prioritize
- in life. Perhaps that is it. Wallahu
- a'lam.
- Very well. Next is from Mr. Andri in
- Bogor. Ustadz. Assalamu'alaikum
- warahmatullahi wabarakatuh.
- Wa'alaikumussalam warahmatullah.
- Right, Ustadz. What is the way out for
- a hardened heart?
- What is the way out for a hardened
- heart? It is as I said earlier:
- increase your dhikr to Allah Subhanahu
- wa ta'ala, besides increasing. So it is
- like this the first is it was mentioned
- earlier that in Surah Al-An'am, verse
- 125. yuridillahu ayyahdiyahu yashrah
- shadrahu lil-islam wamay yurid
- ayyudhillahu yaj'al shadrahu harajan
- dhayyiqan ka'annama yassha'du
- fis-sama'i la yu'minun Whoever Allah
- wills to guide, He expands his chest
- for Islam. And whoever Allah wills to
- let go astray, He makes his chest tight
- and constricted as though he were
- climbing into the sky. Thus does Allah
- place defilement upon those who do not
- believe. So the first thing is that it
- must be protected. So, what about the
- bad traits that exist within this chest
- ? Resentment, hatred, grudge, prejudice
- , and stubbornness—those are what we
- must cleanse from such bad traits. Then
- the second, after we use our chest as a
- filter to screen out bad traits so they
- do not enter the heart, the second step
- is to function the heart to perform
- dhikr to the presence of Allah
- Subhanahu wa ta'ala. H. So, do not let
- us perform dhikr to Allah Subhanahu wa
- ta'ala while our envy continues, and
- our grudges continue. Yes. Yes. So,
- between the truth and the falsehood,
- they cannot be mixed. So we must filter
- out the false so it does not enter our
- hearts. Then the second, how to utilize
- our heart to increase remembrance in
- the presence of Allah Subhanahu wa
- taala. That is what must be done, so
- that later it will be felt, uh, when we
- avoid hatred, prejudice, and grudges
- when we perform dhikr, it will be made
- easy by Allah Subhanahu wa taala to, uh
- , quickly reach khushu 'before Allah,
- yes. So that performing dhikr in a
- state of ihsan will be easily felt. But
- conversely, our heart's function
- remains, uh, uh, to perform dhikr to
- Allah Subhanahu wa taala. But the
- diseases inside our chest are not
- contained, right. Hatred remains, envy
- remains, or we keep committing sins.
- Even if we perform as much dhikr as
- possible, the dhikr we utter will not
- influence our soul because it is
- blocked by those bad traits.
- So, yes, both must be done, preventing
- acts of bad traits. Then filling our
- heart by increasing, uh, dhikr,
- increasing istighfar, yes. Seeking
- forgiveness from Allah Subhanahu wa
- taala and increasing prayers upon the
- Prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam. So
- that is what we must do. So both are
- preventing the entry of those bad
- traits. Then filling our heart by
- increasing dhikr in the presence of
- Allah Subhanahu wa taala. Perhaps that
- is what we must do. Because Allah's
- command in Surah Al-Ahzab uh, verse 41
- earlier, we are commanded to, uh,
- increase dhikr with as much dhikr as
- possible. Perhaps that is it.
- Wallahu'alam. Ustaz. That is for Mr.
- Andri in Bogor, and we still have about
- , uh, 6 minutes left before our break.
- Is there a question from a servant of
- Allah? Assalamualaikum warahmatullahi
- wabarakatuh. Waalaikumsalam.
- Ustaz, if we know the knowledge a
- little bit, know the benefits, know the
- rewards and punishments,
- but still find it heavy to worship,
- does this mean there is something wrong
- with our heart and how do we treat it?
- Yes. Yes, that means, uh, the heaviness
- to perform worship actually means there
- is something wrong within us. Because,
- as mentioned earlier, for example,
- hatred and envy will make us lazy to
- worship. But when the chest's function
- is to filter, right. When the filter is
- good, the bad traits that are about to
- enter the heart are truly filtered in
- the chest, like that. So this is truly
- when the heart is returned to its
- function of increasing dhikr,
- worshiping Allah will not be, what can
- I say, uh, not lazy. So truly the
- essence of laziness is actually because
- of the many soul impurities that are
- still attached to our heart. So there
- is no other way. Uh, wasari'u ila
- maghfiratim mirrabbikum. Hasten to seek
- forgiveness from Allah Subhanahu wa
- taala. Because of the many, uh, bad
- traits that are in the heart, that is
- where those black spots will be, like
- that. So to clean those black spots,
- increase istighfar to the presence of
- Allah, seeking forgiveness from Allah
- Subhanahu wa taala. Praising Allah,
- exalting Allah, sanctifying Allah, and
- asking for forgiveness from Allah. Then
- proceed by increasing prayers upon the
- Prophet peace be upon him, so that,
- what is it? The heart that is already
- accustomed to increasing dhikr,
- steadfast in performing qiyamulail, the
- night prayer, will find it much easier.
- Yes,
- easier, yes. When we find it difficult
- to perform worship, in essence, the
- difficulty we have in drawing closer to
- Allah is because there are still black
- spots or bad traits attached to our
- souls. So, that is what we must cleanse
- first. And when cleansing it, we must
- also ask for help from Allah Subhanahu
- wa ta'ala as was done by Prophet Musa.
- Rabbishrahli sadri wa yassirli amri
- wahlul uqdatan min lisani.
- So we truly cannot cleanse our own
- chests by ourselves. We ask for
- forgiveness from Allah. So it is Allah
- who will cleanse our souls. Now,
- therefore, the preventive measures
- against those bad traits that we must
- be wary of are hatred, jealousy, and
- prejudice. So conversely, increase how
- to forgive people. So, increase
- forgiving the mistakes of others, yes.
- And suppressing anger. Yes, so
- restraining anger, yes. So, dhikrullah
- performed with ihsan will make us more
- vigilant, yes, because preventing bad
- traits will make it easier for us to
- pray to Allah Subhanahu wa ta'ala.
- Perhaps that is it. Wallahu'alam.
- Alright, that is for the question from
- the servant of Allah. May it be
- answered, and we will enter the third
- session. But before that, Ustaz, we
- will take a break first, okay. Brothers
- and sisters who are blessed by Allah
- Subhanahu wa ta'ala. Stay with us still
- in the QBU Reflection program with
- Ustaz Rahmatullah. Rasil TV for one
- Islam. Alright, Radio Silaturahim for
- one Islam. Brothers and sisters who are
- blessed by Allah Subhanahu wa ta'ala.
- We are still together in the QBU
- Reflection program on this night
- occasion. A program that will save us,
- God willing, from the danger and pain
- of the hellfire's torment. Tonight,
- Ustaz Rahmatullah is discussing hearts
- that harden, hearts that turn to stone,
- and the solutions. Earlier, several
- questions were conveyed that had been
- sent by you, brothers and sisters,
- through our WhatsApp at 0811999720. And
- as usual at 0218451512. You can call
- directly and dialogue directly with the
- Ustaz. In our studio, it is currently
- 9:05 PM. Alright brothers and sisters,
- let's head to Semarang. Ustaz, there is
- Khairul Ibad. Assalamu'alaikum
- warahmatullahi wabarakatuh.
- Wa'alaikumussalam warahmatullah.
- Ustaz, what is the difference between
- the whispers of the devil and the base
- desires of the self? Then, how does a
- Muslim ward off and fight against such
- things? Thank you.
- The desires with
- the base self
- and the devil. Yes.
- Yes. What is the difference between the
- whispers of the devil and the base self
- ?
- Actually, it is not a whisper, not a
- whisper of desire, but the whisper of
- base instinct.
- Yeah.
- So, inside us, there is a soul. The
- soul, in Arabic, is the nafs. Desire.
- Now, this is what is sometimes often,
- what do you call it? Desire. Even
- though the nafs is, uh, the one that is
- asked, uh, what? To testify to Allah,
- that is the nafs. In Surah 7, verse 172
- . Then, within the soul, there is base
- instinct. There is base instinct. This
- is what is inside us, always battling
- between the soul and these instincts.
- So, when the soul can control the
- instincts, then that is truly, uh,
- humanity returning to its natural state
- . But when the base instinct, uh, can
- control the soul, it means that the one
- leading is the base desire. When base
- desire leads, then it will interact
- with the whispers of Satan. Yes, with
- the whispers of Satan. So, actually, uh
- , the whispers of base instinct are far
- greater than the whispers of Satan. And
- this is, uh, what do you call it? When
- in the hereafter later, we see in Surah
- Ibrahim, verse 22. I seek refuge in
- Allah from Satan the accursed. And
- Satan will say, when the matter has
- been decided, "Indeed, Allah promised
- you the promise of truth. And I
- promised you, but I betrayed you. But I
- had no authority over you except that I
- invited you, and you responded to me.
- So respond to me—no—so do not blame
- me; but blame yourselves. I cannot be
- your helper, nor can you be my helper.
- Indeed, I disbelieved in your
- association of me with Allah before.
- Indeed, for the wrongdoers is a painful
- punishment." And Satan will say when
- the accounting has been completed.
- Indeed, Allah promised you a true
- promise. This is Satan saying, "And I
- also promised you, but I broke my
- promise. I had no power over you,
- except that I called you and you obeyed
- my call. Therefore, do not blame me,
- but blame yourselves. I cannot help you
- , and you cannot help me. Indeed, I do
- not justify your act of associating me
- with Allah from before. Truly, the
- wrongdoers will receive a painful
- punishment." So here, in the hereafter,
- Satan will say, "Look, I only, only,
- spoke, you were the ones who wanted to
- follow."
- Yes.
- So what does that mean? Precisely
- because the base desire, the whispers
- of base desire are much stronger than
- the whispers of Satan. Let us look at,
- uh, what do you call it? Surah Yusuf,
- verse 28. In Surah Yusuf, verse 28, it
- is mentioned that "innakaidak kunna
- adzim." Indeed, your deception is great
- , very powerful. Now, then, how about
- the deception of Satan? Let us look at
- Surah An-Nisa, verse 76. I seek refuge
- in Allah from Satan the accursed. In
- Surah An-Nisa, verse 76, at the end, "
- inna kaidani""kana da'ifa." So, indeed,
- the deception of Satan is weak. So, if
- it was questioned earlier, which one's
- deception is stronger, base desire or
- Satan? Indeed, the deception of Satan
- is weak. What is actually far stronger
- are the desires that exist within
- ourselves. So that is truly, uh, what
- we must, uh, be wary of—especially
- our own desires. How can we, uh, can
- our soul control these desires? If the
- soul can control desires, then the
- whispers of Satan no longer exist, like
- that.
- Because here it is stated by Allah
- Subhanahu wa ta'ala that the whispers
- or deceptions of Satan are weak. The
- one that is truly formidable, the one
- that is powerful, is the deception of
- desires within us, which is far greater
- than the deception of Satan. So, what
- must be prioritized in how we, uh,
- guard ourselves is how our desires can
- be controlled by the soul. Thus, in
- another verse, Allah states that if the
- truth were to follow desires, surely
- the heavens, the earth, and everything
- in them would be ruined. So here, how
- immense those desires are is far
- greater compared to the, uh, deception
- that is, uh, cast by Satan into our
- souls. So perhaps, if it was asked
- earlier which deception is more
- powerful. It is more, more powerful,
- the deception of our desires compared
- to the deception of Satan.
- Alright. Because as the Prophet said, "
- The greatest Jihad is the struggle
- against one's own desires."
- Jihad an-nafs. "So, uh, what's it
- called? Uh. If we look into, uh, Surah,
- uh, 59, yes. There in 59, verse, uh, 19
- . Here it is mentioned that.
- A'udhubillahi minash-shaytanir-rajim,
- wala takunu kalladhina nasullaha
- fa-ansahum anfusahum...And do not be
- like those who forgot Allah. So, Allah
- will cause them to forget their own
- selves. They are the defiantly
- disobedient ones. So, our soul, how is
- it? How do we ensure we do not forget
- Allah Subhanahu wa ta'ala? So people
- who are self-forgetful are actually so
- because they forgot Allah, until the
- person is made to forget their own self
- , like that. So, uh, here is truly, uh,
- the meaning that our soul, uh, can
- control desires, yes. The sign is, uh,
- a soul that can control desires is a
- soul that constantly remembers Allah,
- like that. Hm, because the function of
- desire is, uh—responding to—one of
- the traits of desire is to distance the
- soul from, uh, forgetting to remember
- Allah, like that. Hm. So to control
- these desires, the soul must increase
- remembrance (dhikr) in the presence of
- Allah Subhanahu wa ta'ala.
- Perhaps that is it. Wallahu a'lam.
- Alright, Ustaz. We go to Tangerang,
- there is Ibu Husnul Khatimah.
- Assalamu'alaikum warahmatullahi
- wabarakatuh.
- Alright, Pak Ustaz. I have a younger
- brother whose heart seems to have
- hardened; he likes to get angry at our
- parents. It is hard to advise him; he
- wants to win every argument. He.
- And this has been happening for a long
- time, Pak Ustaz. I ask for your advice,
- Pak Ustaz. Jazakumullah.
- Yes. If, uh, what's it called?
- Regarding that hardened heart, it was
- mentioned earlier how to prevent the
- heart from hardening, so that the heart
- softens. In that case, uh, what is it
- called? The instruction is to increase
- remembrance of the presence of Allah
- Subhanahu wa ta'ala. However, for
- people who are, uh, hardened like that,
- yes.
- It appears that when they like to get
- angry, that shows their heart is
- hardened. Hm. It was mentioned earlier
- how to keep the heart from hardening,
- so the heart must be, uh, what is it?
- Softened by increasing remembrance of
- Allah Subhanahu wa ta'ala. But when a
- person's heart is hard, it is difficult
- to ask them to perform dhikr, right? So
- , before performing dhikr, the first
- action that must be taken is that the
- person must associate more with those
- who are experts in dhikr.
- Yeah.
- Uh-huh. So, don't associate too much—
- why is their heart hard? Why do they
- like to get angry? Because people who
- are angry, people who are, uh, what is
- it? Vindictive, that means their heart
- is hardened.
- Yes.
- Why is it hard? Because people like
- that actually have a lot of
- associations outside with people who
- are the same. So, they are actually
- being influenced. Influenced to be
- short-tempered, influenced to be
- vindictive. Because their friends are
- indeed vindictive people. So, the step
- to, uh, treat it is to find friends or
- an environment. Just as commanded by
- Allah Subhanahu wa ta'ala in Surah
- Al-Kahf verse 28. Wasbir nafsaka
- ma'alladhina yad'una Rabbahum
- bil-ghadati wal-' ashiyyi. ...wajah. Be
- patient with those who call upon their
- Lord in the morning and the afternoon.
- So, what does this mean here? Associate
- with people who frequently remember
- Allah. Then you will be influenced by
- those who are experts in dhikr. So,
- find friends. If you cannot do dhikr
- yet, just find the friends first.
- Friends who are experts in dhikr. And
- that is where, in fact, when, uh, what
- is it? Our friends are experts in dhikr
- , our own hearts will be influenced.
- Now, once influenced, there will be a
- desire to remember Allah Subhanahu wa
- ta'ala. And that, God willing, will
- make this hardness of the heart
- disappear.
- Because one of the characteristics of,
- uh, a pious person commanded by Allah
- is wal-kaziminal-ghayz. Which is
- restraining anger and forgiving the
- mistakes of others. Wallahu
- yuhibbul-muhsinin. And Allah loves the
- doers of good. Allah loves those who
- are, uh, forgiving, experts in dhikr,
- in a state of ihsan. Allah loves them.
- So, that is, uh, what is it? It will
- gradually be restored by Allah
- Subhanahu wa ta'ala. The hardened heart
- will soften by way of increasing
- friendships; when influenced by friends
- who are experts in dhikr, one will
- strive on their own to increase
- remembrance of Allah Subhanahu wa
- ta'ala. Perhaps that is it. Wallahu
- a'lam.
- Alright. Then we go to Sukabumi, Ustaz.
- There is Mr. Ari. Assalamu'alaikum
- warahmatullahi wabarakatuh.
- Waalaikumsalam warahmatullahi
- wabarakatuh. Ustaz, I am a heavy smoker
- and it is difficult for me to fast. I
- know I must repent, but it is very hard
- . Please give me some advice, Ustaz.
- Thank you.
- Yes. Uh. Actually, it's just a lack of
- intention. That is, as I mentioned.
- Uh, what do you call it? I have also
- dealt with people like that. So, there
- are people who, if asked why they don't
- fast, they are strong enough to not
- fast.
- Hm.
- They are strong enough, if it's fasting
- , they are strong.
- It's just that.
- But when it comes to smoking, they are
- not strong. Because their friends are
- all smokers.
- Yes.
- Yes.
- Yes, it goes back to what I said
- earlier. So, look for friends who don't
- smoke. So, look for friends who don't
- smoke, who are, what do you call it?
- Devoted to dhikr, like that. And then
- there must be a firm intention. The
- intention must be strengthened, right?
- Strengthen the intention to stop
- smoking.
- Hm. So actually, if asked why a person
- finds it hard to stop smoking, it's
- just because their intention isn't
- there. Now, smokers are often given an
- illness by Allah, right? When they get
- sick, right?
- Then they repent.
- They stop smoking, right? Hm.
- But we don't have to get sick first,
- right, Ustaz?
- Yes. Yes. Because, because why? Why
- stop smoking? Because of the conditions
- that truly.
- Require one to stop.
- Require you to stop, right? Try to
- condition your intention to stop, that
- you truly want to.
- Uh, God willing, it will be possible.
- So, return to.
- The intention. Intention. Because I
- have dealt with people like that, heavy
- smokers, and they didn't fast because
- they couldn't resist the urge to smoke.
- So, we suggest, firstly, the intention
- to quit. Then secondly, increase
- dhikrullah, remembering Allah, and
- asking Allah. Yes, so the intention is
- to draw closer to Allah, to want to
- eliminate this smoking habit. Because
- it is because of these cigarettes that
- one is not given the ability to fast.
- Ask for help earnestly and seriously.
- If the intention is sincere, it will be
- easy, God willing, it will be resolved.
- Perhaps that is it. Wallahu a'lam.
- Alright, next we go to a question from.
- A servant of Allah, Ustaz, in Jakarta.
- Assalamualaikum warahmatullahi
- wabarakatuh.
- Waalaikumsalam.
- Ustaz, if in the method of worship,
- such as reading the Quran, one thinks
- it is already good, but according to
- actual lessons, it is still wrong. Even
- though it has been corrected or pointed
- out repeatedly, it remains the same.
- Does this count as a hardened heart or
- not?
- Meaning, in, in.
- Let me repeat, Ustaz.
- If in the method of worship, such as
- reading the Quran.
- Uh-huh.
- One thinks it is already good.
- Huh.
- But according to actual lessons, it is
- still wrong. Huh.
- So, it's like we are reading the Quran
- here.
- As if it is already correct. But when
- someone listens, they might say," Oh,
- this is wrong. "Huh.
- Even though they are repeatedly
- corrected or told, they remain the same
- .
- Is this considered a hardened heart or
- not?
- Yes. That is called, uh, what is it
- called? Uh. Stubbornness, yes.
- Yes, that. So that is, uh, a trait of
- the base desires; it is truly, that
- stubbornness is, uh, a trait of the
- base desires. Whereas the soul is not
- like that.
- Uh-huh.
- The soul will say" we hear and we obey
- "and" advise each other to truth and
- advise each other to patience, "that is
- a trait of the soul. So, indeed, in
- that regard, uh, what is it called?
- People who, uh, possess, uh, the traits
- of base desires are still more
- prominent, yes.
- Earlier, it was mentioned about
- restraining anger and forgiving
- mistakes, so that is truly a trait of
- the soul. But it is not the case with
- the traits of base desires, yes. What
- are these traits of base desires? Uh,
- stubbornness, wanting to be right all
- the time. So, uh, that is what we must,
- must, must, uh, cleanse, yes, cleanse
- from, uh, these traits of stubbornness.
- Because that is truly a trait of base
- desires, yes, which is what makes the
- heart become hard, yes, because, uh,
- what is it? Being wrong but feeling
- right, yes, feeling right, being
- argumentative, uh, wanting to win for
- oneself. Those are, uh, bad traits that
- exist within the chest which must be
- cleansed.
- Uh-huh.
- That is what makes the heart become
- hard. It will have the effect of
- hardening the heart, yes. When the
- heart, uh, has received light from
- Allah Subhanahu wa ta'ala, then that
- heart will soften. So the darkness that
- is, uh, in the heart will be replaced
- with light by Allah Subhanahu wa ta'ala
- . Now, the heart that receives light
- from Allah will always say" we hear and
- we obey "if that command comes from the
- Quran and the Sunnah of the Prophet.
- Uh-huh.
- It will always be submissive, that is.
- So it doesn't want to just win for
- itself.
- Yes. Now, that trait of wanting to win
- for oneself is a trait of base desires
- and that is what makes, uh, the heart
- hard. That is truly that thing, Allah.
- Alright. And we are at the end of our
- time, Ustadz. The time in the studio
- shows 21:27. minutes. And this is one
- last question, Ustadz, for this evening
- from Bunda Rido. Peace be upon you and
- the mercy of Allah and His blessings.
- And peace be upon you and the mercy of
- Allah.
- Ustadz, is it true that dhikr will keep
- us from becoming senile when we are old
- ?
- Hm.
- Peace be upon you.
- From whom?
- Bunda Rido.
- Bunda Rida. Yes. Uh, later you can see,
- Bunda Rido, this, uh, Quran, yes, surah
- 59 verse 19, earlier. So it is said
- there:" wala takunu kalladina nasullaha
- faansahum anfusahum ulaika humul
- fasiquun. "So do not be like those who
- forgot Allah, so He made them forget
- themselves. They are the defiantly
- disobedient ones. Now, like this, what
- is someone who forgets themselves? Yes,
- that is senility. Like that. So it is
- true. Yes. So, people who are diligent
- in dhikr, God willing, they won't get
- senile. The verse is in Surah Al-Hashr,
- surah 59, verse 19.
- Hmm.
- So, when someone forgets Allah, Allah
- will make that person forget themselves
- . If someone has forgotten themselves,
- that is what we call senility. That's
- how it is.
- Yes.
- Hmm. So, how do we avoid becoming
- senile? Do not forget Allah. How do we
- make sure not to forget? That is by
- increasing our dhikr to Allah.
- So, the correlation is like that.
- Yes. So,
- people who are senile are so because
- they forgot Allah. So Allah makes them
- forget themselves. Now, forgetting
- oneself, that is what it means to be
- senile. Yeah.
- That's it. So, how do we prevent it,
- how to avoid senility? Well, by
- increasing dhikr to Allah Subhanahu wa
- ta'ala. Especially if the dhikr is
- performed with khusyuk (deep humility),
- right? Yes. Uh, ihsan, feeling the
- presence of Allah. So, the verse is
- later in surah 59 verse 19. So, to
- prevent senility, increase dhikr to
- Allah, increase remembering Allah
- Subhanahu wa ta'ala. Because in this
- verse, when a person forgets Allah,
- Allah makes them forget themselves. Hmm
- , and forgetting oneself, that is what
- is called being senile. Yes, in surah
- 59 verse 19. Perhaps that is it.
- Wallahu a'lam (Allah knows best).
- Alright. And the closing is in Quran
- Surah Al-Hashr, yes. Yeah.
- Surah 59 verse 19, this word of Allah
- becomes our closing tonight, Ustaz.
- Hopefully, we do not forget Allah, the
- way is
- by increasing our dhikr. The
- correlation is like that.
- Remembering Allah through dhikr,
- right, Ustaz? Yes.
- Yes.
- So it's a trending topic, yes?
- Yes. Alright, brothers and sisters who
- are blessed by Allah Subhanahu wa
- ta'ala. That concludes our tausiah (
- lecture) tonight in the" Renungan QBU "
- program with Ustaz Rahmatullah. And as
- usual, what conclusion can you share,
- Ustaz? Yes, the conclusion is, uh, it
- is very important for us to know how to
- ensure
- that the heart does not harden. In the
- previous episode, we discussed diseased
- hearts; this time, it is about how the
- heart hardens. When we realize the
- hardness of the heart, Allah states
- that a hardened heart is like a stone,
- or even harder than a stone. Now, if it
- has hardened even harder than a stone,
- then truly that heart can no longer
- function in its fitrah (nature) which,
- uh, can be used to draw closer to Allah
- Subhanahu wa ta'ala. So it becomes
- difficult, yes. Uh, one of the simplest
- examples is that a hardened heart will
- find it difficult to be khusyuk. When
- doing dhikr to Allah Subhanahu wa
- ta'ala, whether remembering Allah or
- while performing prayer, it is hard to
- be khusyuk. So, uh, when we feel the
- difficulty in being khusyuk to Allah,
- we must introspect ourselves. It means
- our heart is currently hardening. Yeah.
- Now, uh. When our hearts harden, that
- is when we seek the therapy within the
- Noble Al-Qur'an. A heart can harden
- because it is no longer functioning
- according to its natural state, or
- because of the influence of bad traits
- from the chest entering the heart.
- Therefore, it is important for us to
- know what bad traits will cause our
- hearts to harden, making us unable to
- use our hearts according to their
- purpose, which is to draw closer to
- Allah Subhanahu wa ta'ala. So, when we
- know that a hardened heart is, what
- should I say, going to be fatal for us,
- then of course we will, um, take
- preventive measures. So, before the
- heart hardens, we must consistently
- carry out those preventive measures. We
- must maintain the heart, by always
- striving to remember Allah with
- devotion, feeling, when we ask for
- forgiveness from Allah Subhanahu wa
- ta'ala, the presence of Allah. When we
- glorify Allah, we are in a dialogue
- with Allah Subhanahu wa ta'ala, feeling
- the presence of Allah. When we are
- given the ability to feel that, it is
- truly a sign that Allah is giving or
- placing His light into our hearts. Or
- in other words, our hearts are safe
- from hardness or becoming stony. When
- that happens
- Allah knows best. Subhanakallahumma
- wabihamdik, ashadu alla ilaha illa anta
- , astaghfiruka wa atubu ilaik,
- asalamualaikum warahmatullahi
- wabarakatuh.
- Waalaikumsalam warahmatullahi
- wabarakatuh. Alright brothers and
- sisters, that is our lecture for this
- evening on the theme of the hardened
- heart. May we be kept away from such
- traits. Traits where our hearts harden,
- especially hardening against the truth.
- Sufficient for us is Allah as our
- refuge. From our studio, those on duty
- tonight. I am Bagus, accompanied by
- Ondi and Yusuf Subangkit at the
- operator's desk, and all the staff in
- regions such as Sukabumi, Semarang,
- Batam, Palembang, Pontianak, and also
- Banyuwangi. We take our leave. Billahi
- taufik wal hidayah. Wasalamualaikum
