- Peace be upon you, and Allah's mercy
- and blessings.
- And peace be upon you, and Allah's
- mercy and blessings.
- In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious
- , the Most Merciful. All praise is due
- to Allah; we praise Him, seek His help,
- and ask for His forgiveness, and we
- seek refuge in Allah from the evils of
- our souls and our misdeeds. Whoever
- Allah guides, none can lead astray, and
- whoever He leads astray, none can guide
- . I bear witness that there is no god
- but Allah alone, with no partner, and I
- bear witness that Muhammad is His
- servant, His messenger, and the most
- beloved of the prophets He has sent.
- Allah sent him as a mercy to the worlds
- and a bearer of glad tidings. And a
- warner. O Allah, send blessings, peace,
- and abundance upon this noble prophet,
- and upon his family and all his
- companions. To proceed, Allah Subhanahu
- wa Ta'ala has said in His Book. In the
- name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the
- Most Merciful. "O mankind, there has
- come to you an instruction from your
- Lord and healing for what is in the
- breasts and guidance and mercy for the
- believers. Say, 'In the bounty of Allah
- and in His mercy-in that let them
- rejoice.'" To the one I respect and
- love, Al Habib Abdullah Aljafri, and
- also to all the gentlemen, ladies,
- teachers, and scholars who are honored
- by Allah Subhanahu wa Ta'ala. All
- praise and thanks be to Allah that we
- can gather and meet again in this noble
- place for the purpose of our monthly
- routine study, and in particular, on
- this occasion, to commemorate the
- birthday of our master, the Great
- Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings
- be upon him. In Surah Yunus that I
- recited earlier, Allah Subhanahu wa
- Ta'ala says, "O mankind, there has come
- to you instruction from your Lord and
- healing for what is in the breasts and
- guidance and mercy for the believers."
- O mankind, there has come to you
- instruction from your Lord, a sermon or
- advice from your Lord. Yes, we often
- listen to advice from scholars and
- clerics. We are reminded that there has
- come to you advice directly from Allah
- Subhanahu wa Ta'ala. What is it? Yes,
- advice directly from Allah. What is it?
- Have you ever heard Allah speaking to
- us? Listening to Allah's advice is the
- Holy Qur'an. This is advice directly
- from Allah Subhanahu wa Ta'ala. So, in
- one hadith, our Prophet Muhammad, peace
- and blessings be upon him, said, "
- Whoever wants to speak to Allah, let
- him pray.""Whoever wants to speak to
- Allah, to confide in Him, to ask of
- Allah, let him pray." Perhaps the five
- daily prayers are not enough; pray at
- night, perform the Tahajud prayer. We
- confide in Allah Subhanahu wa Ta'ala.
- Express all our complaints, all our
- burdens, and all that we hope for to
- Allah Subhanahu wa Ta'ala. When we
- prostrate to Allah Subhanahu wa Ta'ala.
- The Prophet said, "Whoever wants to
- speak to Him...""Whoever wants to speak
- to Allah, he should pray, he should
- pray." Because when we pray, the
- Prophet said, the closest a servant is
- to his Lord is while he is prostrating.
- The closest a person is to Allah, to
- their Lord, is when they are
- prostrating. That is the moment
- the closest moment we are to Allah
- Subhanahu wa Ta'ala is when we are
- prostrating. Therefore, during
- prostration, especially when we are
- praying alone, please ask Allah
- Subhanahu wa Ta'ala in our hearts for
- whatever we need; confide in Allah
- Subhanahu wa Ta'ala, God willing, Allah
- will grant our needs. Then the Prophet
- said, "And whoever wants Allah to speak
- to him...""Whoever wants to be spoken
- to by Allah, let him read the Qur'an."
- Because the Qur'an is the speech of
- Allah. The Qur'an is not like an
- ordinary book. Whether it's a Hadith
- book, a Fiqh book, a Sirah book, a
- history book, or any book, yes, perhaps
- if we read it, we might gain benefits
- from it. But the Qur'an is different,
- it is the Word of Allah. We are
- rewarded for every letter we recite.
- Especially if we understand it, yes,
- reflect upon it. And then practice it.
- That is indeed what is expected.
- Because this Qur'an is guidance and
- mercy for the believers. The Qur'an is
- guidance and also a mercy for the
- believers. Allah says, "Indeed, there
- has come to you an instruction from
- your Lord." An instruction has come
- from your Lord. And a healing for what
- is in the breasts. And this, the Qur'an
- , is a healing for what is within the
- heart. Every disease within our hearts,
- the Qur'an is the cure. Do not
- underestimate it. What is this? Oh,
- just heartache. I mean, whatever it is
- that we feel, whether it be joy or
- sorrow, isn't the source from the heart
- ? Even if a person has much wealth, if
- their heart is constantly anxious,
- their heart is always fearful, no. The
- wealth will not be felt. Yes, this
- heart is the source. Thus, the
- Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him
- and grant him peace, said, "Indeed,
- there is a piece of flesh in the body."
- Indeed, within our body, there is a
- piece of flesh. If that flesh is good,
- then the whole body is good. And if it
- is corrupt, the whole body is corrupt.
- If that flesh is corrupted, the whole
- body becomes corrupted. Beware, it is
- the heart. That piece of flesh is the
- heart. This heart of ours is, well, it
- is
- the pump that sends blood throughout
- the body. Its food, nutrients, and
- oxygen are flowed and pumped from our
- heart. The Prophet, may Allah bless him
- and grant him peace, said this can be a
- source of disease and also a source of
- goodness. That is physically.
- Spiritually, it is our heart. If a
- person's heart is good, their heart is
- healthy, then God willing, their whole
- body will be healthy. Their heart is
- full of faith, full of piety to Allah
- Subhanahu wa ta'ala, their life will
- become good. This is what the Messenger
- of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant
- him peace, said. And also stated by
- Allah Subhanahu wa ta'ala, the Qur'an
- is a healing for what is in the hearts.
- This acts as a cure for what is inside
- the heart. Not only that, it is
- guidance. The Qur'an also serves as
- guidance. Guidance for mankind, and
- actually, even more important guidance
- for us, the Muslims. If mankind wants
- to use the Qur'an as guidance, they
- will reap huge benefits for both life
- in this world and the hereafter.
- Because the Qur'an, besides being
- guidance for mankind, is also guidance
- and mercy for the believers. It serves
- as guidance for all people, or
- especially for the believers. Not only
- as guidance, but also as a mercy. Now,
- Allah Subhanahu wa ta'ala continues in
- the next verse in this Surah Yunus. "
- Say, 'In the bounty of Allah and in His
- mercy-in that let them rejoice; it is
- better than what they accumulate.'" Say
- , O Messenger of Allah, with the bounty
- of Allah, how Allah Subhanah wa Ta'ala
- gives us grace, giving us a legacy as
- great as the Holy Qur'an, and also by
- sending our Prophet Muhammad sallallahu
- alaihi wasallam to us, fabidzalika
- falyafrahu. Let them rejoice in that.
- So, our joy in commemorating the birth
- of our leader, the Great Prophet
- Muhammad sallallahu alaihi wasallam, is
- something commanded by Allah Subhanah
- wa Ta'ala. If someone does not like
- holding Mawlid celebrations, it means
- they are not happy with the birth of
- the Messenger of Allah sallallahu
- alaihi wasallam. Yes. Qul bifadlillah
- wabirahmatihi. Say, O Muhammad, with
- the bounty of Allah and His mercy, let
- them rejoice. Now, what should they
- rejoice with? Of course, if we rejoice
- with the coming of the Messenger of
- Allah, rejoice with his birth, and
- rejoice that we possess the Qur'an, we
- must certainly practice what Allah
- Subhanah wa Ta'ala has commanded in the
- Holy Qur'an. In another verse, in Surah
- Ali Imran, Allah Subhanah wa Ta'ala
- states, "Laqad manallahu alal mukminina
- idz ba'atha fihim rasulan min anfusihim
- yatlu alaihim ayatihi...""...yuzakkihim
- wa yu'allimuhumul kitaba wal hikmah, wa
- in kanu min qablu..." Indeed, Allah
- Subhanah wa Ta'ala has given a grace.
- Laqad manallahu alal mukminin. Truly,
- Allah has given a very great grace to
- the believers. What grace is that? Idz
- ba'atha fihim rasulan min anfusihim.
- When Allah sent among them a messenger
- from among themselves. Min anfusihim.
- Meaning a messenger from their own kind
- . The messenger is from the human race,
- not an angel. Because if it were an
- angel, perhaps if the Messenger of
- Allah showed an example of worship,
- people might say, "Oh, the Prophet's
- prayer is strong, his tahajud is strong
- until his feet swell.""Well, of course.
- ""The Prophet is an angel, not a human.
- " But no, this is the Messenger of
- Allah sallallahu alaihi wasallam, min
- anfusihim, the same as them, from the
- human species, who recites His verses
- to them. Purifying them, and teaching
- them the Book and the wisdom. Even
- though they were previously in error.
- We underline again here how Allah
- Subhanah wa Ta'ala states, "Laqad
- manallahu alal mukminin." Truly, Allah
- has given a great grace to the
- believers by sending our Prophet
- Muhammad sallallahu alaihi wasallam.
- Therefore, we commemorate his birth.
- Where the distance between us, as Ustaz
- Husin said, is already far from the
- Messenger of Allah. Yes, we commemorate
- it; if the companions did not, it was
- because they were still close in time
- to the Messenger. The Tabi'in were also
- still close. We are already far, more
- than 1,400 years. These moments of the
- Prophet's birth, we read the history of
- the Prophet, we commemorate it, we
- listen to the good advice, these are
- moments that serve as a trigger for us.
- Moments to be encouraged again so that
- we follow and emulate the character of
- the Messenger of Allah sallallahu
- alaihi wasallam. Ladies and gentlemen,
- this verse in Surah Ali Imran was
- revealed during the Battle of Uhud. Yes
- , we know that in the Battle of Uhud,
- did the believers win or lose? In the
- Battle of Uhud, did they win or lose?
- Lost.
- Lo-
- lost.
- Lost. Yes. Yes. So that we know the
- history of the Prophet. Don't just know
- the history of football players or
- other important people, while being
- ignorant of the Prophet's history. When
- the Battle of Uhud occurred, which took
- place a year after the Muslims 'first
- war against the infidels, the Battle of
- Badr, where Allah Subhanahu wa ta'ala
- granted a glorious victory at that time
- . A year later, in the third year of
- the Hijri calendar, this Battle of Uhud
- occurred. The number of the infidels
- was larger, 3,000 troops. While the
- Muslims were around 1,000, 900 people.
- But the Prophet sallallahu alaihi
- wasallam had already arranged the
- positions of the Muslims. Yes, even
- though facing a larger enemy, the
- Prophet commanded how the hill behind
- the Prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam,
- called Jabal Rumath, must be guarded by
- archers. This was in the rear. So, if
- we go for Hajj or Umrah, we stop by the
- Uhud area. There are the graves of the
- martyrs, including Sayyidina Hamzah
- radhiallahu anhu wa anhum ajmain. There
- is a hill there that is not too high.
- In front of it is Mount Uhud, which
- looks somewhat reddish if seen from a
- distance. This hill is usually called
- the hill of the archers. Jabal Rumath.
- Rumath, meaning rumatun, means arrow.
- What is the meaning of this? The
- Prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam
- ordered the archers so that they would
- not leave this place, would not leave
- this position. Even if you see us
- winning or losing, do not change your
- position. Keep guarding our rear line.
- So if there are enemies from behind,
- rain arrows upon them. This was the
- message of the Prophet sallallahu
- alaihi wasallam to them. Then occurred
- the war between the Muslims and the
- infidels at that time. With the
- strategy that the Prophet sallallahu
- alaihi wasallam applied, the Muslims
- were almost victorious. In fact, many
- of the Quraysh infidels were killed and
- many had retreated due to the
- persistence of the Muslims. However,
- then these archers saw, "Wow, the
- Muslims have won.""Why are we just
- staying here?""Why don't we go down
- there?" Especially seeing the Muslims,
- some were already collecting war booty.
- Perhaps they thought, "Oh, we might not
- get any share." Yes, those on top, the
- archers, finally went down, even though
- their leader, their commander, had
- warned them, "Do not go down," yet they
- went down anyway. Yes.
- They went down, leaving maybe only 4 or
- 5 people left on that hill. Finally,
- seeing this, it turned out that among
- the Quraysh infidels there was Khalid
- bin Walid at that time. Khalid bin
- Walid had not yet embraced Islam at
- that time. He was the commander of a
- cavalry unit. He saw that the Muslims'
- rear was unguarded. So he turned around
- and attacked from behind. So at that
- moment, the Muslims were in chaos
- because suddenly there were enemies
- behind them, and in front, those who
- had previously fled saw the
- reinforcements and advanced again. The
- Muslims were cornered at that time. Yes
- , many among the Muslims were killed.
- It is mentioned that 70 were killed
- then, uh, companions who were killed,
- including the uncle of our Prophet
- Muhammad sallallahu alaihi wasallam,
- Sayidina Hamzah. And the Messenger of
- Allah sallallahu alaihi wasallam did
- not escape injuries either. His teeth
- were broken, his cheeks bled, and his
- feet were wounded. The Muslims felt sad
- , they felt a loss, whether it be
- wealth, or the loss of family and
- relatives. Even so, the Muslims were
- certainly very sad with the martyrdom
- of those companions. Then, this verse
- was revealed. Do not be sad. Meaning,
- nothing compares to the presence of the
- Messenger, the sending of the Messenger
- sallallahu alaihi wasallam among you,
- that is greater than any blessing, more
- than wealth, position, or anything you
- cherish. Therefore, Allah says, "Laqad
- manallahu alal mukminin." Indeed, Allah
- has bestowed a great favor upon the
- believers. Far greater than any other
- blessing. We may feel happy gaining
- wealth, position, or other pleasures,
- but compared to the gift of the
- Messenger sallallahu alaihi wasallam,
- it means nothing. "Laqad manallahu alal
- mukminina id ba'atha fihim rasulam min
- anfusihim." The companions were indeed
- wondering at the time, "How could we
- lose? How could we be defeated? Even
- though our leader, the commander, was
- the Messenger of Allah sallallahu
- alaihi wasallam. How could we lose?"
- Yes, this Battle of Uhud was actually a
- very valuable lesson for the believers.
- Why did they lose? Allah Subhanahu wa
- ta'ala answers directly after the verse
- mentioned earlier. "Awalamma asabatkum
- musibatun qad asabtum mithlayha." Why
- do you ask, when you are struck with
- this defeat? "Qad asabtum mithlayha,"
- when you had previously achieved a
- victory twice as great. Meaning at the
- time of the Battle of Badr. Because at
- the Battle of Badr, 70 of the infidels
- were killed. And 70 were also taken
- captive. Whereas in the Battle of Uhud,
- only 70 died, those who died as martyrs
- . So Allah Subhanahu wa ta'ala mentions
- here, "Qad asabtum mithlayha," you had
- won twice over. Meaning if before it
- was 70 times two, now it is only 70 who
- were killed from the Muslims. "Qultum
- anna hadha," you ask, why did this
- happen? How could we lose? After all,
- we are the believers. We are people of
- faith. We believe in Allah. How could
- we lose? Now, this is also for us as
- believers, do not feel, "Oh, I am
- already a believer," if the believers
- still lose, for example in an election.
- Look, observe, investigate. Why did it
- happen to you? What was Allah's answer?
- Qul huwa min 'indikum. This defeat was
- caused by yourselves. Yes. Do not blame
- Allah. Oh, this is Allah's decree. You
- are the ones who made the mistake, why
- blame Allah? Huwa min' indi anfusikum,
- innallaha 'ala kulli shay'in qadir.
- This is the result of your own actions.
- That is, in the Battle of Uhud. What
- kind of mistake? It was the mistake of
- the archers who did not obey their
- leader. The archers who did not follow
- the Prophet's guidance, who would not
- obey the command of the Prophet
- sallallahu alaihi wasallam. They forgot
- because they saw potential spoils of
- war or due to other things. Allah knows
- best. However, they violated the
- command of the Messenger, where the
- Prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam had
- ordered them not to leave that place.
- They came down, eventually leading to
- the defeat of the Muslims. This is a
- very important lesson. Even though in
- the Battle of Uhud they lost in the end
- , it became a lesson, and Allah
- Subhanahu wa ta'ala recounted in the
- Qur'an the cause of their defeat so
- that they would not repeat it. So
- taking the means taking the necessary
- steps, executing a strategy, carrying
- out a tactic in war, or any other
- tactic, yes. That is part of the
- Sunnatullah. That is a part commanded
- by Allah Subhanahu wa ta'ala. Yes, for
- example, another analogy, he wants to
- obtain sustenance, yes, he wants his
- merchandise to sell, but he doesn't
- want to use strategies to make his
- merchandise sell. For instance, in
- selling food, the food is mediocre, yes
- . He doesn't want to present the food
- with a delicious taste. Then the
- packaging is careless, and the
- cleanliness is also careless. Then he
- wants to, "Ah, he prays to Allah,""O
- Allah, make my merchandise sell well."
- This is what you call playing games
- with Allah, yes. He is not doing it
- right but wants to ask for something,
- asking Allah Subhanahu wa ta'ala to
- help him. He must strive first as best
- as he can. He takes the means, then
- puts his trust (tawakkul) and prays to
- Allah. This is what is taught by Allah
- Subhanahu wa ta'ala to the believers.
- Why did the believers then become
- strong after that? Why the believers,
- who originally, as Allah Subhanahu wa
- ta'ala says, "wa in kanu min qablu la
- fi dalalin mubin." Even though they
- were previously in clear misguidance.
- How did the believers, as described
- earlier by Ustaz Husin, how could the
- Roman army, the Roman forces, the Roman
- empire, all be conquered? Likewise with
- Persia, yes, all could be conquered by
- the believers who were originally
- illiterate (ummiyin). In Surah
- Al-Jumu'ah it is mentioned, "Huwalladzi
- ba'atha fil ummiyina rasulan minhum."
- It is Allah Subhanahu wa ta'ala who has
- sent among the unlettered, among a
- people who were illiterate. The word'
- ummiyin 'comes from the word' um '(
- mother), attributed to someone just
- born who cannot read, yes. "Umiyin"
- means among those who were illiterate,
- or in other words, among people who
- were backward compared to the Persians
- and Romans at that time. Allah sent
- among them. Meaning, even though they
- were originally illiterate. How, with
- Allah's guidance, with the teachings of
- the Prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam,
- and by using the holy Quran, they
- transformed into a noble, respected,
- and strong nation. Even Allah praised
- them, "Kuntum khoira ummatin ukhrijat
- linnas." You are the best nation
- produced for mankind. Through what kind
- of education? The Prophet sallallahu
- alaihi wasallam educated them. The
- Prophet educated them with the Quran. "
- Yatlu alaihim ayatihi." The Prophet
- recited His verses to them. The word "
- yatlu" here does not mean just reading,
- but reading followed by explaining its
- meaning, clarifying its intent, then
- contemplating its significance, and
- afterwards practicing it. That is the
- word "yatlu." Recited to them, then
- practiced, and the verses were put into
- action. "Wayuzakkihim." Beyond that,
- their hearts were purified. Their
- hearts were made clean. The impurities
- of polytheism were cleansed from their
- hearts. The impurities of envy were
- cleansed from them. The impurities of
- arrogance were cleansed from their
- hearts. "Wayuzakkihim." If the heart is
- clean, there is no suspicion among them
- , and the unity and strength among
- Muslims will be forged. But if there is
- mutual suspicion, looking at a friend
- who receives a blessing and feeling
- suspicious. Seeing them make a small
- mistake and having bad thoughts. Yes,
- this will not be right. This is
- purified by Allah Subhanahu wa ta'ala
- through the teachings of the Quran. "
- Ya'limuhumul kitaba wal hikmah wa in
- kanu min qablu lafi dhalalim mubin."
- They became a noble nation through the
- teachings of the noble Quran. Therefore
- , through this Mawlid commemoration, it
- is not just about us being happy, not
- just us celebrating and commemorating,
- but this, God willing, becomes a
- training ground for us to be more
- intimate with the Quran, for us to
- better understand Allah's verses. As I
- said earlier, if we want to listen to
- Allah giving us advice, what happens if
- we don't understand? Yes, we won't know
- what Allah is saying to us if we don't
- understand the meaning. Therefore, read
- the Quran, and after finishing reading,
- we should also read the meaning. Then,
- if there is something you don't
- understand the meaning of, what do you
- do? Ask. Allah Subhanahu wa ta'ala
- commanded, "Fas'alu ahla adz-dzikri in
- kuntum la ta'lamun." Ask those who
- possess knowledge, the people of the
- Quran, the scholars, if you do not
- understand. So this Quran is for all
- you mothers, for all you fathers as
- well. It is not just for the Prophet's
- time, not just for the time of the
- companions, the tabi'in, our time, but
- also for the times to come until the
- Day of Judgment. Because don't hope for
- the arrival of a new prophet anymore.
- Don't hope for the descent of more
- revelation. Because the Prophet
- sallallahu alaihi wasallam is the
- Khatamun Nabiyyin. He is the seal of
- the prophets. Therefore, the Prophet
- sallallahu alaihi wasallam left us, and
- upon his passing, he left behind a very
- precious legacy to maintain the
- continuity of Allah Subhanahu wa
- ta'ala's guidance. The guidance of the
- Prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam.
- Hopefully, everything we listen to,
- what we read in the Qur'an, and what we
- later contemplate, we can, God willing,
- put into practice. Therefore, when
- there are calls for "one day one," you
- know, often on WhatsApp there's "one
- day one ayah," or they say "one day one
- juz," reading one juz a day so that
- within a month we complete the
- recitation. That is good, but it is
- even better if we don't just read one
- day one ayah bil makna; let's read one
- verse a day while knowing its meaning
- and understanding it as well. If you
- don't know, please ask the teachers.
- This, God willing, will be more
- beneficial because it practices what
- was mentioned earlier, yatlu alaihim
- ayatihi. So, yatlu means reading, then
- understanding, then contemplating, and
- finally practicing it. This means, yes,
- an education like this will, God
- willing, change our lives, change our
- character, change our faith, increase
- our faith, so that our hearts are
- illuminated by the glorious Qur'an.
- This is all I can convey; I apologize
- for any shortcomings. Billahi taufik
- wal hidayah. Wasalamualaikum
- warahmatullahi wabarakatuh. Yeah.
