How 0:32 are you, brothers and sisters? Welcome, 0:34 good morning, welcome to our reflection 0:36 program under the shade of the Quran 0:38 with the humble servant, Isa Alkaf. We 0:41 have Kang Atebudi on camera and Andis 0:43 Mualim at the control desk. Praise be 0:46 to Allah, they are with us this morning 0:48 . As always, brothers and sisters, our 0:50 teacher, Ustaz Husein bin Hamid Alattos 0:52 . Peace be upon you, Ustaz. 0:53 Peace be upon you too. 0:54 Ustaz Hamzah bin Atas Altos. Peace be 0:56 upon you, Ustaz. Peace be upon you, and 0:58 Allah's mercy and blessings. 0:58 Today we are recording in the midst of 1:01 cold rain. Praise be to Allah, brothers 1:03 and sisters, we are still in an 1:05 atmosphere of warmth with the Quran. 1:07 Praise be to Allah, today, God willing, 1:09 we will continue our discussion on 1:12 character (akhlaq). We have already 1:15 discussed, brothers and sisters, 1:17 character towards Allah, character 1:18 towards the Prophet, and God willing, 1:20 today, character towards our parents. 1:24 But before we begin, it is better if we 1:26 open this session by reciting the 1:28 Mother of the Quran, Surah Al-Fatihah. 1:31 We invite Ustaz Husein to lead us. I 1:33 seek refuge in Allah from the accursed 1:35 Satan. In the name of Allah, the Most 1:43 Gracious, the Most Merciful. All praise 1:48 is due to Allah, Lord of the worlds. 1:54 The Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. 2:00 Master of the Day of Judgment. You 2:05 alone we worship and You alone we ask 2:07 for help. Guide us to the straight path 2:15 . The path of those upon whom You have 2:20 bestowed favor, not of those who have 2:23 evoked [Your] anger or of those who are 2:26 astray. Amen. Amen, O Lord of the 2:34 worlds. May Allah accept it from us. 2:37 May the recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah 2:40 open the doors of mercy and guidance 2:43 for us, and may Allah Subhanahu wa 2:45 ta'ala plant in our hearts the grace so 2:48 that we remain on the straight path of 2:51 Allah, not the path of those who are 2:54 led astray or have incurred the wrath 2:56 of Allah. Brothers and sisters, as I 2:59 mentioned earlier, we have discussed 3:01 this in several previous sessions. 3:04 Brothers and sisters can review the 3:06 previous videos regarding character 3:08 towards Allah Subhanahu wa ta'ala, and 3:10 character towards our Prophet Muhammad 3:12 sallallahu alaihi wasallam. There are 3:15 already three episodes. Please, 3:16 brothers and sisters, if you wish to 3:18 review, feel free to watch the previous 3:20 videos. Those who want to ask questions 3:22 can also leave them in the comment 3:24 column. God willing, we will read them, 3:27 and at the end of this program, I will 3:29 read one question from the brothers and 3:32 sisters for you, Ustaz. And don't 3:35 forget, this coming Friday, there will 3:38 be a live Q&A session. 3:41 Directly with Ustaz Husein bin Hamid 3:43 Alattos; for brothers and sisters who 3:45 want to ask questions, please contact 3:46 us via WhatsApp or call directly. Now, 3:49 today we will discuss a truly 3:52 extraordinary deed, brothers and 3:54 sisters. A direct command from Allah 3:58 Subhanahu wa ta'ala to us to maintain 4:01 our character towards our parents. And 4:06 this is a deed that becomes the cause 4:08 for the elevation of our status as 4:11 believers in the sight of Allah 4:13 Subhanahu wa ta'ala. There was a 4:17 Tabi'in who was even called one of the 4:21 best Tabi'in, his name was Uwais 4:23 Al-Qarni, Ustaz. 4:27 Because of his devotion to his mother, 4:30 carrying his mother from his land to 4:33 Makkah Al-Mukarramah to perform Hajj at 4:37 the Baitullah. MasyaAllah. How, 4:40 brothers and sisters, is the 4:42 commandment of Allah Subhanahu wa 4:43 ta'ala regarding manners toward our 4:45 parents? Let us study and learn 4:47 together, as will be explained by Ustaz 4:50 Husein and Ustaz Hamzah. First, let us 4:53 listen to Ustaz Husein bin Hamid Alatas 4:56 . Please, Ustaz. 5:00 Auzubillahiminashaitanirrajim. 5:03 Bismillahirrahmanirrahim. Allahumma 5:47 atina min ladunka rahmah. Amma ba'du. 5:58 Brothers and sisters, listeners and 6:00 viewers of Silaturahim Radio and TV who 6:02 are blessed by Allah. Ustaz Hamzah bin 6:07 Atas Alattas, Ustaz Isa bin Ahmad 6:09 Taufik, who are accompanying us this 6:11 morning. Likewise to all brothers and 6:17 sisters. fellow believers, fellow 6:22 countrymen, and fellow citizens. We are 6:26 all placed by Allah in this worldly 6:29 life to undergo a test. Are we grateful 6:35 to Allah who has bestowed His blessings 6:37 upon us, or are we among those who are 6:40 ungrateful? Allah will give recompense 6:44 according to their deeds and actions in 6:46 this life. May Allah Subhanahu wa 6:52 ta'ala make us people who are truly 6:55 earnest in attaining the glory that 6:57 Allah has promised in the hereafter. 7:02 And may Allah guide us in this worldly 7:04 life to walk the path of those whom 7:05 Allah Subhanahu wa ta'ala has favored. 7:09 Just as in our prayer every time we 7:12 recite Al-Fatihah. Ihdinas siratal 7:15 mustaqim, siratalladzina an'amta 7:18 alaihim ghairil maghdubi alaihim 7:20 waladdhalin. Salamullahi 'alaikum 7:28 jami'an warahmatullahu wabarakatuh. Our 7:34 discussion this morning is about 7:39 manners toward our parents. After we 7:47 have spoken at length, although we 7:52 cannot possibly cover all matters 7:57 related to the topic of our discussion, 8:01 we try our best to our ability. After 8:06 we have spoken about manners toward 8:08 Allah and manners toward His Messenger. 8:12 This morning, God willing, we will 8:14 speak about manners toward our parents. 8:20 Allah Subhanahu wa ta'ala in the Qur'an 8:24 explicitly reminds us to always act 8:29 kindly and honorably toward our father 8:32 and mother. Allah Subhanahu wa ta'ala 8:39 forbids us from committing acts that 8:42 hurt them. It is forbidden to be rude 8:47 in front of them. Allah even forbids us 8:50 from saying "uff," which shows 8:52 dissatisfaction with parents. 8:56 Remembering their kindness and services 8:58 . Even if our parents are not believers 9:04 . Allah still commands us to treat them 9:09 with honor. If they command us to do 9:15 something wrong, which is not in line 9:17 with Allah's pleasure, Allah Subhanahu 9:20 wa ta'ala forbids us to obey them, but 9:23 outside of what Allah forbids, we are 9:26 commanded to always be kind to them. 9:32 Allah says, "Relating to us the 9:39 testament of Luqman to his son. Luqman, 9:44 who is known as the wise, that is 9:48 Luqman al-Hakim." Wa idz qala Luqmanu 9:52 libnihi wa huwa ya'izhuhu ya bunayya la 9:55 tusyrik billah. When Luqman said to his 9:59 son, "Ya bunayya," a warm and 10:01 affectionate term of endearment from a 10:04 father to his son. When a father calls 10:08 his child, "Ya bunayya," it is a call 10:11 full of warmth and love for his son. La 10:16 tushrik billah. Do not ever associate 10:18 partners with Allah. Innas-shirka 10:22 la-dhulmun' azim. Indeed, shirk is a 10:25 truly great injustice. Once you 10:30 associate partners with Allah Subhanahu 10:33 wa Ta'ala, abandoning His guidance and 10:35 instructions, you cast yourself into 10:38 disgrace. You also plunge yourself into 10:44 the most wretched state possible. 10:48 Because you are associating partners 10:49 with Allah alongside mere creatures 10:51 like yourself. You should instead 10:53 return to your Lord. Rather than 10:57 relying and leaning on fellow creatures 10:59 like yourself. Everything is in Allah's 11:03 hands; when He wills a thing, He only 11:05 says to it, "Be," and it is. Even if 11:08 all of humanity worked together to 11:10 bring us benefit, if Allah does not 11:12 will it, it will never happen. But 11:16 conversely, even if all of humanity 11:18 tried to block the good that comes from 11:21 Allah, Allah Subhanahu wa Ta'ala will 11:28 not let their desires be fulfilled. 11:32 Therefore, let us pin our hopes and 11:34 lives on Allah Subhanahu wa Ta'ala. 11:36 Follow His guidance and commands, for 11:39 the benefits of which all return to us. 11:43 But abandoning Allah and replacing Him 11:45 with others is the greatest injustice 11:46 one can commit against oneself. Whereas 11:51 Allah, as the All-Rich and All-Powerful 11:54 Lord, is not harmed by our actions. 12:00 Allah has already prepared a place for 12:02 those who are grateful. And also 12:03 prepared a place for those who are 12:05 ungrateful. In-irham. Al-insana. 12:15 Bi-walidayhi hamalathu ummuhu wahnan ' 12:17 ala wahnin wa fisaluhu fi' amayn. 12:22 Anishkur li wa li-walidayk, 12:24 ilayyal-masir. We strongly urge and 12:27 advise every human being to truly act 12:33 kindly and honorably toward their 12:35 parents. Hamalathu ummuhu wahnan 'ala 12:41 wahnin wa fisaluhu fi' amayn. 12:44 Especially the mother, who carries [the 12:47 child] with great hardship and 12:49 exhaustion. In fact, it is not rare for 12:54 a woman giving birth to be on the thin 12:56 line between life and death. Many of 12:59 them pass away. Wa fisaluhu fi 'amayn. 13:05 It turns out that the suffering of 13:07 parents, the suffering of a mother in 13:11 raising her child, does not end with 13:13 pregnancy and childbirth. After that 13:16 comes the nursing period. Her rest is 13:18 interrupted, her sleep is disturbed. 13:22 Besides nursing, she cleans their dirty 13:24 clothes, the remains of their urine and 13:26 excrement. It turns out just giving 13:30 birth is not enough. Then the nursing 13:34 period, and subsequently, the parents' 13:37 burden becomes even heavier in 13:39 educating and motivating. If we are not 13:43 grateful to our parents for their 13:45 kindness, after Allah Subhanahu wa 13:49 Ta'ala, who else is more deserving of 13:51 our gratitude? If someone receives such 13:55 great kindness from their parents and 13:57 does not appreciate it, can they even 13:59 be called a human being? Then, anishkur 14:07 li wa li-walidayk, ilayyal-masir. You 14:09 must be grateful to Me. And likewise to 14:13 your parents. Then, ilayyal-masir. In 14:17 the end, all of you will be gathered 14:19 and brought before Me. You will see 14:24 there how those who were honorable to 14:26 their parents are rewarded. What a 14:30 terrible and frightening retribution is 14:32 imposed upon those who associate 14:34 partners with Allah and are disobedient 14:36 , forgetting the kindness of their 14:38 parents. Then Allah continues, "What if 14:43 —as if people are asking, as if 14:46 someone is asking— 14:47 what if our parents are polytheists or 14:50 heretics and so on?" Allah Subhanahu wa 14:53 ta'ala says, "Wa jahada bihi ilmun 15:03 washibhuma fid dunya." If they both 15:06 force you to associate partners with Me 15:11 , something you have no knowledge of. 15:16 Because everything besides Allah is His 15:18 creation. Then we are ordered to 15:20 associate partners with Allah. Which 15:23 has no basis in truth. Allah says, " 15:26 Falauma," do not obey them in this, in 15:28 things that are not right. But keep " 15:32 wasohibhuma fid dunya ma'rufa." Treat 15:35 them in this worldly life in a kind, 15:38 good, and noble manner. How should a 15:41 child be towards their parents? " 15:51 Wattabi sabila man anaba ilaih." And 15:53 follow the way of those who always 15:56 return to Me. They do not desire the 16:00 world, but they desire what is with 16:02 Allah. Then to Me you will all be 16:10 returned, and I will inform you of what 16:14 you used to do. One by one, it will be 16:18 revealed by Allah Subhanahu wa ta'ala. 16:20 Now we move on to Surah Al-Ahqaf. " 16:23 Wa-wassaynal-insana bi-walidayhi ihsana 16:27 .""Hammalathu ummuhu kurha."" 16:32 Wa-wada’athu kurha, wa-hamluhu 16:35 wa-fisaluhu...""...hatta balagha 16:40 ashuddahu wa-balagha arba’ina sanah 16:44 ...""...qala rabbi awzi’ni an ashkura 16:49 ni’mataka-llati an’amta ‘alayya 16:51 wa-‘ala walidayya wa-an a’mala 16:53 salihan tardahu wa-aslih li fi 16:55 dhurriyyati, inni tubtu ilayka wa-inni 16:58 mina-l-muslimin." This is the 15th 17:01 verse of Surah Al-Ahqaf. And We 17:10 strongly advise every human child to 17:16 act kindly and nobly towards their 17:19 parents. Especially the mother, " 17:22 hamalat-hu kurha," giving birth in 17:24 difficult circumstances that she 17:26 dislikes. Giving birth also in a 17:30 difficult atmosphere that is disliked 17:32 due to pain, but out of love for the 17:34 child. She bears all this suffering 17:38 because of her love for her child. Then 17:46 "wa-fisaluhu thalathuna shahran," the 17:48 weaning period is 30 months including 17:51 the pregnancy period. So, pregnancy 17:54 lasts 9 months, right? Added to the 17:56 breastfeeding period of how long? 18:01 2 years. 18:02 2 years. So, "wa-hamluhu wa-fisaluhu... 18:06 ""...hatta balagha ashuddahu." So when 18:14 that child reaches adulthood and 18:16 maturity— "wa-balagha arba’ina 18:18 sanah"—that age of maturity is 40 18:20 years old, saying: "My Lord, enable me 18:23 to be grateful for Your favor which You 18:26 have bestowed upon me and upon my 18:28 parents...""...and to do righteousness 18:32 of which You approve, and make 18:34 righteous for me my offspring..." When 18:37 they reach the age of 40, this 18:40 righteous child, even before 40, always 18:43 remembers their Lord. They pray, "O my 18:47 Lord, help me, O Allah, to be grateful 18:49 for Your blessings that You have 18:52 bestowed upon me and upon my parents. 18:55 Help me to perform righteous deeds that 18:57 You are pleased with, and improve, O 19:02 Allah, my descendants." Then, "inni 19:06 tubtu ilayka wa-inni mina-l-muslimin." 19:10 I declare myself to have repented to 19:12 You, O Allah, and I declare myself 19:13 among those who surrender to Allah 19:15 Subhanahu wa ta'ala. What is Allah's 19:19 promise for them? What is Allah's 19:21 promise for "Ula'ika-lladhina 19:23 nataqabbalu ‘anhum ahsana ma ‘amilu 19:25 "? They are the people whose deeds We 19:29 will accept. The best of deeds that 19:32 will be accepted by Allah. Their 19:36 imperfect deeds, meaning those that did 19:39 not reach the highest level of goodness 19:41 . Allah Subhanahu wa ta'ala unites them 19:45 with the high-ranking good deeds, then 19:47 rewards them according to the highest 19:49 status. If school exam results are 19:54 calculated with an average of 9 or 8, 19:56 and they are combined with 6 or 7, what 19:58 would the average be? But when Allah 20:02 rewards His servant with a generous 20:05 reward, because he has done the best 20:07 and most beautiful deeds, then other 20:10 deeds—yes, righteous deeds performed 20:12 in faith—will be elevated to the 20:14 highest status and rank. That is a 20:18 mercy from Allah Subhanahu wa ta'ala. 20:23 So, they are the ones from whom We will 20:25 accept the best of their deeds. Then 20:33 and We will wipe away all their sins, 20:36 as dwellers of Paradise. Wa'dan that is 20:43 the true and valid promise made by 20:46 Allah to them. Wa'dan-alladzi kanu 20:50 yu'adun. This is the promise of Allah 20:53 that Allah Subhanahu wa ta'ala has 20:55 promised them. We see here, Aisyah, how 20:59 Allah reminds us and explains that for 21:02 those who keep Allah’s commandments, 21:05 worship Allah, do not associate 21:07 anything with Him, and treat their 21:10 parents with nobility while hoping for 21:13 Allah’s pleasure, He will place them 21:16 in a very high position. This is a 21:22 promise from Allah, and Allah will 21:25 forgive all their sins. Allah will also 21:29 gather them with His righteous servants 21:31 . Allah will unite them with those who 21:36 are truly within His mercy, both in 21:38 this worldly life and in the hereafter. 21:42 But on the other hand, *walladzi qala 21:46 liwalidayhi uffin lakuma ata'idani an 21:50 ukhraja wa qad khalat al-qurunu min 21:54 qabli...*indeed, the promise of Allah 21:58 is true. Earlier, we saw the picture of 22:02 a righteous child who grew up in 22:03 goodness, praying at the age of 40 with 22:05 the prayer taught directly by Allah. On 22:09 the other side, there are youths and 22:12 people who are disobedient. Reminded by 22:18 his father, he says to his parents, " 22:20 Uff"—*walladzi qala liwalidayhi uffin 22:23 *— "Uff" describes how he belittles 22:25 and underestimates his parents. And he 22:30 refuses to open himself at all to see 22:33 the truth. "What, do you assume or 22:47 promise me that I will be brought back 22:49 to life, taken out after death?""Even 22:54 though generations have passed who have 22:56 already returned to Allah.""Not one of 22:59 them has been resurrected." That is 23:01 their reasoning. So, the one who says 23:06 to his parents, "Uffin lakuma," truly, 23:10 what? "You both are tedious.""Woe to 23:13 you both.""Are you promising me,""or 23:23 threatening me, that I will be brought 23:25 out, that I will be brought back to 23:27 life?""Even though the previous nations 23:30 have passed," yes, returned to Allah. " 23:33 Not one of them," meaning, has been 23:35 brought back to life. *Wa huma 23:38 yastaghithani Allah...waylaka amin. * 23:41 His parents beg for Allah's help, 23:43 reminding their child. *Waylaka amin. * 23:46 "Woe to you.""Believe for your own 23:49 salvation."*Inna wa'dallahi haq. * 23:51 Indeed, the promise of Allah is the 23:53 truth. But the answer is casual, " 23:56 fayqulu ma illa asatirul awalin." He 24:00 says all of this is just the fairy 24:02 tales of the ancients. "Ulaikalladina 24:09 haqqo alaihimul qawlu fi umamin qad 24:11 khalat min qablihim minal jinni wal ins 24:14 ."" 24:16 Innahum kanu khasirin." Well, people 24:18 like them are those "ulaikalladina 24:20 haqqo alaihimul qawl." They are the 24:24 people who have truly deserved the 24:26 decree and punishment of Allah 24:27 Subhanahu wa ta'ala. "Ulaikalladina 24:32 haqqo alaihimul qawlu fi umamin qad 24:35 khalat min qablihim minal jinni wal ins 24:37 ." Amidst the nations of jinn and 24:41 mankind that preceded us. How they also 24:46 turned out to deny the prophets and 24:49 messengers sent among them. So Allah 24:52 gathers them together. "Fi umamin qad 24:54 khalat min qablihim minal jinni wal ins 24:56 innahum kanu khasirin." Allah gathers 24:59 them with their predecessors from among 25:01 the jinn and humans who disbelieved in 25:03 Allah Subhanahu wa ta'ala. Allah unites 25:06 them. Each will receive their 25:10 recompense according to their deeds. 25:13 And it is impossible for them to escape 25:15 the grasp of Allah Subhanahu wa ta'ala 25:18 and His justice. Now, from here we see 25:22 Allah's promise for those who treat 25:24 their parents with kindness and 25:26 nobility as an expression of gratitude 25:29 for their goodness. They also pray to 25:34 Allah to be guided to perform righteous 25:37 deeds that are pleasing to Allah. They 25:42 also pray to Allah to reform their 25:44 offspring so that they grow up in a 25:47 pure, noble state. They also receive 25:52 the promise of Allah's forgiveness for 25:54 the sins they have committed. And it is 25:56 truly appropriate for our parents to 25:59 receive, what exactly? Our devotion and 26:02 our kind and noble treatment. If 26:05 everyone reflects on the suffering of a 26:07 mother and the exhaustion of a father 26:09 in raising their children. From the 26:16 time of pregnancy and childbirth, where 26:18 the father is involved alongside the 26:20 mother. The burdens of life that they 26:24 must bear. Then also controlling and 26:29 supervising their children to walk in 26:31 the pleasure of Allah and the truth. 26:34 This is a heavy task. They work day and 26:38 night, but no one gives them a salary. 26:43 When their child, let's say, rebels, 26:45 disobeys, and opposes, their parents 26:47 remain patient with an open heart, 26:49 continuing to guide them. This is the 26:53 state of parents who never keep count 26:56 against their children. Even when they 27:00 own something, they do not hesitate to 27:03 sell it for the safety and happiness of 27:06 their child. But it is a great pity 27:10 that, lately, the relationship between 27:12 children and parents has become so 27:14 fragile. Children's views are focused 27:17 on material things. Their orientation 27:20 is truly entirely materialistic. 27:24 Eventually, they look down upon their 27:26 parents. Especially if their parents 27:29 are old, frail, helpless, and no longer 27:31 productive. Many children feel burdened 27:34 by the presence of their parents with 27:36 them. 27:38 Whereas these are the beautiful moments 27:40 for a child to show their devotion to 27:42 Allah. Their devotion to Allah through 27:47 their obedience and noble attitude 27:49 toward their parents. Even though we 27:54 see in our daily lives that children 27:57 who are devoted to their parents open 27:59 the infinite doors of Allah Subhanahu 28:02 wa ta'ala's mercy. Allah truly values 28:06 the attitude of gratitude in a servant. 28:09 But when they are ungrateful, when they 28:13 oppose, rebel, and act arrogantly, they 28:16 will fall into disgrace. We seek refuge 28:20 in Allah. Brothers and sisters, may 28:24 Allah Subhanahu wa ta'ala have mercy on 28:25 you. Even without speaking of religion, 28:29 our conscience and hearts firmly state 28:34 that being kind and noble to our 28:37 parents is a duty that every human with 28:40 a conscience must fulfill. Especially 28:44 with the guidance of Allah Subhanahu wa 28:47 ta'ala brought by His Messenger. How 28:50 Allah reminds us to always act kindly 28:52 and nobly. Likewise, the Messenger of 28:55 Allah, peace be upon him, regarding 28:57 women as a mother who is weak, who has 29:04 served so greatly, nurturing us, caring 29:07 for us, and raising us. Yet, it turns 29:12 out many people today neglect their own 29:15 mothers. There is a story of a mother 29:20 living in a rented house belonging to 29:22 her daughter-in-law, her son's wife, 29:29 and the mother had to pay the rent 29:31 herself. Meanwhile, the son who is 29:35 married feels no shame at all seeing 29:38 how his mother, who has no home and 29:41 little care, is renting a place from 29:44 his own wife. The son should have been 29:46 the one paying if there was rent to be 29:48 paid. But the mother works hard and 29:50 struggles. The mother pays the rent 29:53 herself without any concern from her 29:56 son. The mother lamented how her son 30:02 cares more about his wife, fears his 30:04 wife, and ignores his own parent. There 30:09 was another elderly woman who came to 30:13 see me. She offered a donation of a 30:18 significant amount. From the proceeds 30:21 of her sold house, she set aside some 30:23 for what? To help. Besides supporting 30:29 the cause of the Prophet, she also 30:31 helps struggles in the path of Allah 30:32 Subhanahu wa ta'ala for education. This 30:37 woman told the story of how she was 30:40 left by her husband with many children, 30:43 not just a few. Eventually, the mother 30:48 started trading; with someone's help, 30:51 she was taught to cook rendang and 30:53 Padang-style dishes. Several menu items 30:57 were taught by someone who was kind to 31:02 her. So she opened a food cart. She 31:06 opened a small food cart. Selling food 31:11 in the middle of the market. During the 31:17 day she traded, at night she slept 31:19 under the cart. Once a week she would 31:22 return home to send provisions to her 31:25 children. Since they were all still in 31:28 school, the eldest looked after them. 31:30 The mother worked and slept under the 31:32 cart every night. During the day while 31:36 she worked, she worked preparing food 31:38 for the people at the market. She 31:43 earned a small profit to provide for 31:45 her family's needs. That lasted for 31:50 years, not just one or two, but many 31:53 years until she grew old, doing this 31:55 work until her children finished school 31:57 and lived independently. Not just one 32:01 or two children, but a large number of 32:03 children. I forgot how many. Until one 32:07 day, a non-Muslim, even from a family 32:12 uh, who came from what? From Chinese 32:16 descent. A Chinese person. But their 32:18 conscience was truly alive. On one hand 32:21 , we see people who frequently attend 32:23 religious gatherings. Their conscience 32:26 is truly veiled by darkness and selfish 32:28 attitudes. But this person saw a mother 32:32 working such long hours, and feeling 32:35 pity, asked, "Do you have a home?" She 32:39 said, "I don't have a home at all.""The 32:41 house she lived in was rented. 32:46 Eventually, this person called their 32:49 children, reminding them to pay 32:51 attention to their mother who worked 32:53 hard day and night unselfishly, even 32:56 bringing things for her children 32:58 without asking for wages. Not just 33:02 working for an hour or two, but working 33:04 her whole life for her children. 33:08 Finally, the Chinese person said," Try 33:10 to find some land, look for a plot, and 33:12 I will pay for it. "" Then you build it 33:15 so you have a home. "Finally, the 33:20 mother happily accepted the request. 33:23 How do I pay it back? He said don't 33:24 bother yourself. Later if I have guests 33:27 , I'll ask for food from you. Send over 33:29 some rice with rendang. Actually, he 33:31 didn't really need that, but he wanted 33:33 to ease the mother's feelings as well. 33:34 So that her burden wouldn't be too 33:36 heavy. So the mother bought the land, 33:40 paid for by that person, and then built 33:43 her house. Praise be to God, her 33:46 children could move into that house. 33:48 The mother continued to trade. Whenever 33:53 that generous person who helped her 33:54 wanted something for his guests or 33:56 whatever, she would immediately deliver 33:57 it. Then it was recorded, deducted from 34:01 what? From what was it? Whatever was 34:04 taken as payment for her debt. She was 34:06 very earnest in paying off her debt. So 34:10 it was truly a moving, yet tragic 34:11 situation. Glory be to God. As she 34:14 retired in her old age because her 34:15 children were independent, it turned 34:17 out someone wanted to buy her house. 34:19 The price was quite, quite good. The 34:22 house that was given by whom? That 34:24 philanthropist was sold, and she set 34:27 aside a fairly large portion. Not just 34:29 10 or 20 million, but a quite 34:31 significant amount. She set it aside 34:33 from the house that was sold to be 34:34 donated for what? The struggle in the 34:36 path of Allah Subhanahu wa Ta'ala. 34:39 Besides being happy for her children, 34:41 she came herself to deliver the money. 34:43 At an age that might have been close to 34:45 80 years old at the time. The meaning 34:48 of a mother's struggle who works hard 34:51 to support her family; she never asked 34:55 how much my salary was 34:57 from that work. She never once brought 35:00 up to her children what she had done 35:02 for them. Because why? Because of a 35:05 sincere love without the slightest 35:06 expectation of reward. Then where are 35:09 the feelings of today's children who 35:12 are busy with their own affairs, their 35:14 games, their pleasures, even to the 35:16 point where parents sell their jewelry 35:18 for their children after they are 35:20 married. Suddenly, when the parents are 35:24 weak, it turns out the children feel 35:26 burdened if their mother lives in their 35:28 house. Each says," You keep her at your 35:32 house. "The other says no, you keep her 35:34 at your house. Whereas in the past, we 35:38 remember parents, when they grew old, 35:39 they were fought over until the child 35:41 said," Mom, don't work anymore. "Rest 35:46 taken by their children. If she lives 35:48 in the old house, the others get angry. 35:50 I 35:51 eventually they set a schedule for what 35:52 ? To 35:53 take turns 35:54 taking turns with each other. Having 35:56 the honor of their mother living in 35:58 their homes. But now we notice why 36:01 children today are so indifferent, 36:03 selfish, without seeing their mother's 36:05 kindness. I appreciate the short dramas 36:11 , short clips on YouTube made by people 36:15 in Korea, in Taiwan, and everywhere 36:18 that contain lessons on how to 36:21 appreciate what? Appreciating parents. 36:26 Now, as followers of our Prophet who 36:29 was sent as a mercy to the worlds, as 36:31 the prophet of mercy who guides us to 36:34 believe in the oneness of Allah and to 36:36 treat our parents with nobility, it 36:38 turns out we have lost the spirit of 36:41 our religion. Religion is only a set of 36:46 rigid and empty rules, ignored as 36:49 humans get busy with various worldly 36:52 lives that make them forget their 36:54 afterlife. May Allah make us and our 36:58 children people who always show 37:00 devotion to their parents, both while 37:03 they are alive and after they have 37:05 passed away. We can treat our parents ' 37:09 friends, our parents' relatives, and 37:12 people our parents loved with nobility. 37:15 Treating them with nobility is the same 37:17 as treating our own parents with 37:19 nobility. This is just a brief overview 37:22 . God willing, Ustaz Hamzah will 37:23 continue and perfect it. Wait before I 37:26 read the questions from the brothers 37:28 and sisters. Now, let us listen to the 37:31 explanation from Ustaz Hamzah bin Atas 37:33 Alattas regarding morals towards 37:35 parents. Please, Ustaz. 37:40 In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious 37:41 , the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah 37:42 , Lord of the worlds. O Allah, send 37:44 prayers and peace upon our master 37:45 Muhammad and upon the family of our 37:47 master Muhammad. Our Lord, increase us 37:49 in knowledge and join us with the 37:51 righteous. Our Lord, let not our hearts 37:53 deviate after You have guided us, and 37:55 grant us mercy. Indeed, You are the 37:57 Bestower. My Lord, expand for me my 37:59 chest, ease for me my task, and untie 38:01 the knot from my tongue, so they may 38:03 understand my speech. To proceed. 38:06 Praise be to Allah and thanks be to 38:08 Allah. We have just heard the 38:13 presentation and explanation from our 38:16 teacher, Ustaz Husein bin Hamid Alattas 38:18 , about having good morals towards 38:22 parents, about the importance of birrul 38:25 walidain (kindness to parents), which 38:28 Allah Subhanahu wa Ta'ala has 38:30 repeatedly explained in the Holy Qur'an 38:36 . This is a message from Allah 38:38 Subhanahu wa Ta'ala. A testament, even, 38:42 from Allah Subhanahu wa Ta'ala. As just 38:46 recited, how Allah gave a testament. 38:49 And We have enjoined upon man, 38:51 concerning his parents—his mother 38:53 bears him in weakness upon weakness, 38:55 and his weaning is in two years. Indeed 38:59 , We have enjoined upon mankind. This 39:01 testament is a set of important 39:03 messages. A message, if we speak in 39:07 Betawi, a stern warning. 39:10 A very important message to mankind to 39:16 always be good to their parents. Allah 39:22 Subhanahu wa Ta'ala in this verse 39:25 mentions the kindness of parents, which 39:31 was just told, and also how there are 39:34 examples illustrating parents 'kindness 39:37 who do not expect any return from their 39:40 children at all. Parents do good to 39:45 their children with full love, with 39:49 full mercy. But sometimes when children 39:55 do good to their parents Sometimes 40:02 compelled, sometimes heavy, yet unlike 40:05 the kindness parents show to their 40:09 children. Allah Subhanahu wa ta'ala 40:13 briefly touches upon the sacrifices 40:16 parents make for their children. 40:19 Hammalatu ummuhu wahnan ala wahnin 40:22 waisuhu fiin. His mother carried him 40:26 through hardship upon hardship. And 40:33 then, she nursed him until he was 40:37 weaned at the age of two. Then Allah 40:42 Subhanahu wa ta'ala reminds us of the 40:46 sacrifices of your parents. Especially 40:52 the mother, who carried us, gave birth 40:56 to us, and nursed us. Allah reminds us: 41:02 an-ishkur li wa li-walidayk. Be 41:05 grateful to Me and to your parents. We 41:10 know that gratitude is the highest 41:13 level of worship to Allah Subhanahu wa 41:17 ta'ala. Allah Subhanahu wa ta'ala 41:20 connects it immediately after gratitude 41:23 to Him. Allah Subhanahu wa ta'ala 41:27 commands us to also be grateful to our 41:29 parents. In another verse, how does 41:33 Allah place it after the command to 41:36 worship Him? Allah pairs it with doing 41:40 good to one's parents. Wa'budullaha 41:44 wala tusriku bihi shay'an wa 41:47 bil-walidayni ihsana. Allah links our 41:52 devotion to Him with doing good to our 41:56 parents. So the Messenger of Allah, 42:02 peace be upon him, said in a hadith: 42:10 Rida Allah fi rida al-walidayn, wa 42:13 sukht Allah fi sukhti-hima. The 42:16 pleasure of Allah lies in the pleasure 42:19 of parents. Likewise, the anger of 42:22 Allah lies in the anger of parents. 42:26 This shows how important it is for us 42:35 to be good to our parents as a 42:41 reflection, an expression of our 42:44 gratitude to Allah and to our parents. 42:50 Even though when our parents do good to 42:53 us, they do not expect anything in 42:56 return. It is an outpouring of love 43:01 from our parents to us. So, no matter 43:11 how great the things we do, no matter 43:13 what kindness we perform, for our 43:20 parents, it will never be comparable to 43:24 what they have done for us. Once, there 43:30 was a man who, while performing Tawaf, 43:36 carried his mother on his back. He 43:41 carried her all the way from his home 43:44 to the holy city of Mecca for Hajj. 43:48 During Tawaf, Sa'i, and all the Hajj 43:54 rituals, he kept carrying his mother on 44:01 his back. Then he asked—this is 44:06 narrated as asking Sayyidina Ibn Umar, 44:09 or in another version, asking the 44:11 Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him. 44:14 If it were asking the Messenger of 44:16 Allah, it would have been during the 44:18 Farewell Hajj. Or perhaps this 44:22 narration refers to asking a companion 44:26 of the Prophet, Abdullah ibn Umar:" 44:29 Have I sufficiently repaid the kindness 44:33 of my parents? "" By carrying my mother 44:40 throughout the Hajj pilgrimage? "Ibn 44:46 Umar replied," Not at all; what you 44:51 have done is not even comparable to a 44:55 single groan your mother made while 45:00 giving birth to you. "that is not 45:03 comparable to that. This shows how what 45:08 our parents do is truly without any 45:11 ulterior motive, without expecting any 45:14 return from us, and full of love, which 45:17 is different from what children usually 45:20 do for their parents. I mean, usually 45:26 when children do good to their parents, 45:32 they surely want to finish doing those 45:36 deeds quickly. When will it be over? 45:41 Until when do they have to do this? But 45:45 for parents, if you compare it, a 45:47 child's kindness to their parents is 45:50 limited to when their parents are no 45:53 longer around. But when it comes to the 45:57 hope for it to end, it is not like that 45:58 for parents. When parents do good to 46:01 their children, they hope it continues; 46:04 when they do good, they hope their 46:06 children keep growing. that their 46:09 children will have a long life, like 46:11 that. This is what makes the 46:13 relationship between parents and their 46:15 children different. Therefore, Allah 46:19 Subhanahu wa ta'ala always commands us 46:22 to be good to both of our parents. 46:28 Whether we or our parents are still 46:32 alive, or even when they have passed 46:35 away. It was also mentioned earlier how 46:39 , when they are still alive, we should 46:42 be kind to our parents. Even if our 46:46 parents have different beliefs than us, 46:49 we must still be kind to them. Yes, 46:55 what is forbidden is when they command 46:57 us to do things that contradict Allah's 46:59 commands to us. That is the only time 47:02 we are forbidden from obeying their 47:04 commands. However, in all other matters 47:08 that are good, Allah Subhanahu wa 47:10 ta'ala commands us to always be kind to 47:13 our parents. Allah Subhanahu wa ta'ala 47:19 also mentions how we should always pray 47:23 for our parents. Whether they are still 47:27 alive or when our parents have passed 47:31 away. Allah even provides an example of 47:36 the prayer sentence. A prayer for our 47:41 parents. Waqul rabbirhamhuma kama 47:44 rabbayani shaghira. Say," Rabbirhamhuma 47:48 . "" O Allah, have mercy on both of 47:51 them, have mercy on my parents. "" Kama 47:54 rabbayani shaghira, "just as they 47:57 nurtured me when I was small. This is 48:02 even found in other verses, how Allah 48:05 Subhanahu wa ta'ala shows that when the 48:08 prophets prayed, they always prayed for 48:12 their parents. Rabbighfirli 48:15 waliwalidayya waliman dakhala baitiya 48:17 mu'minan wal mu'minat. Those are also 48:21 the prayers that were offered by the 48:25 prophets of the past. These are 48:29 examples of how we must always pray 48:31 because if we try to repay them with 48:34 our deeds, we will never be able to 48:37 fully repay them. When we pray for our 48:42 parents, we are actually pleading with 48:46 Allah so that He may reward them. If we 48:51 try to repay them ourselves, we will 48:53 never, ever be able to repay our 48:56 parents' kindness. Therefore, we are 49:00 commanded to pray so that Allah will be 49:02 the one to reward their kindness. This 49:07 is exactly what our Prophet Muhammad, 49:11 peace be upon him, advised when someone 49:15 asked," O Messenger of Allah, how can I 49:20 still be kind and dutiful to my parents 49:24 when they are no longer with me? "What 49:29 did the Messenger of Allah, peace be 49:30 upon him, say? Yes, how can one be 49:36 dutiful to their parents when they have 49:38 passed away? The Prophet said," 49:41 Alistigfaru lahuma. "Yes, meaning the 49:47 first is to seek forgiveness for both 49:52 parents. Yes, as in the prayer just now 49:57 ," Rabbigfirli waliwalidaiya warhamhuma 50:01 . "Yes, O Allah, forgive me and my 50:04 parents. Yes," warhamhuma, "and have 50:08 mercy on my parents." Kama rabbayani 50:10 shiro. "So," alistigfaru, "the first is 50:14 to beg for forgiveness, to seek their 50:16 pardon. Because everyone surely has 50:21 faults, and we ask for forgiveness so 50:23 that our parents 'mistakes are pardoned 50:25 by Allah, the Glorified and Exalted. 50:29 The first is" alistigfaru lahuma. "Then 50:32 ," wasalatu alaihima. "Yes," wasalatu 50:36 alaihima "means prayer in the sense of 50:38 supplication. We pray, yes, we pray for 50:43 our parents. Like the phrase earlier," 50:47 warhamhuma. "O Allah, grant mercy to my 50:50 parents. This is a part of the 50:53 supplication. Next is" wasodqatu 50:58 alaihima. "Giving charity on behalf of 51:02 and for our parents. People often give 51:06 charity or endowments, saying," This is 51:09 an endowment for my parents. "That is a 51:12 righteous deed. It is part of being 51:15 dutiful to parents. And the next is" 51:18 wasilaturahim. "Yes. Yes. Maintaining 51:23 ties of kinship." Allati la tasilu illa 51:26 bihima. "Connecting with the relatives 51:30 of our parents, or their friends and 51:34 acquaintances, because we maintain ties 51:38 with them simply because our parents 51:42 were close to them. That is how to be 51:47 dutiful to our parents. Do not ever 51:51 sever the ties of kinship that our 51:54 parents had with their family and 51:58 friends. We should keep them connected 52:01 even though our parents are no longer 52:04 with us. This is all I can convey. And 52:07 Allah, the Glorified and Exalted, knows 52:08 best. 52:08 God willing, may Allah reward you with 52:10 goodness, Ustaz, for the explanation. 52:11 Thank you very much, Ustaz Hamzah. May 52:14 Allah, the Glorified and Exalted, make 52:16 what our teachers have shared a means 52:18 of guidance for us all. Brothers and 52:20 sisters, let us close with the 52:21 Kaffaratul Majlis prayer." 52:23 Subhanakallahumma wabihamdika ashadu 52:26 alla ilaha illa anta astagfiruka. " 52:28 Wassalamualaikum warahmatullahi 52:30 wabarakatuh. 52:31 Waalaikumsalam.
