- wherever you are. Alhamdulillah, this
- afternoon we are still given the
- opportunity by Allah to continue our
- study discussing the book Riyadus
- Shaliheen, namely chapter 152. The
- fourth hadith in this chapter, or
- hadith number 923. In the book Riyadus
- Shaliheen, we will discuss what is said
- to the deceased. In our previous
- meeting or study, we already discussed
- about*talqin*(prompting), about things
- related to this, so on this occasion,
- we will try to study the*akhlaq*(morals
- ). Morals, indeed this is the morality
- of the tongue, the morality of our
- attitude in communicating with the
- family. The deceased or also with those
- who are sick. Alright, let us continue
- to the fourth hadith in this book. The
- fourth hadith in this chapter. From Abu
- Hurairah, may Allah be pleased with him
- , that the Prophet, may Allah bless him
- and grant him peace, said: "Allah the
- Almighty says, 'I have no reward other
- than Paradise for My believing servant
- if I take away his dear one from among
- the people of the world, then he seeks
- reward from Me.'" Narrated by
- Al-Bukhari. Allah the Almighty says.
- people of the world. There is no reward
- with Me for My believing servant who,
- when I take away their loved one, take
- the life of their loved one from the
- people of this world, then they seek
- reward, and hope for My pleasure.
- Nothing less than that, except Paradise
- for them. Yes, Masha Allah, La hawla wa
- la quwwata illa billah. This Hadith
- Qudsi tells of, or conveys, how someone
- who is pleased with an event when their
- loved one—whether it be their wife or
- husband, or their father, or mother, or
- daughter, or son, or grandchild, or
- whoever they consider to be someone
- they love very much—is taken. Then
- Allah takes their soul. But then they
- are patient. Then they return to Allah
- (istirja). They say, "Inna lillahi wa
- inna ilaihi raji'un." They even say, "
- Alhamdulillahi 'ala kulli hal,
- alhamdulillahi rabbil' alamin,
- alhamdulillah," and so on. So when it
- is said, "Inna lillahi," it truly means
- , "Indeed, we belong to Allah." We
- belong to Allah. Indeed, we belong to
- Allah. "Wa inna," and indeed, "ilaihi,"
- to Him, to Allah, "raji'un," we will
- return. Then they praise Allah
- Subhanahu wa Ta'ala for that event. Yes
- , praising Allah. In a previous hadith,
- it is mentioned that Allah commands the
- angels to build what is called? A house
- , a palace in Paradise called Baitul
- Hamdi. Now, this hadith explains that
- if someone like that, whose beloved
- child's soul is taken, is then pleased
- and only hopes for the pleasure of
- Allah. What they utter is only praise
- to Allah, and what they say is only
- something that is pleasing to Allah
- Subhanahu wa Ta'ala. They do not blame
- Allah, right? They do not protest
- against Allah Tabaraka wa Ta'ala, so
- there is nothing fitting for them
- except, according to this hadith, the
- reward is a garden so beautiful,
- situated in a very high position called
- Al-Jannah, the Paradise of Allah
- Subhanahu wa Ta'ala. This hadith, O
- brothers of faith, informs us of the
- encouragement to be patient and seek
- reward during a calamity. So for a
- believer, this is very interesting. Why
- is it interesting? Even in a calamity,
- they can take the opportunity to earn
- Allah's pleasure, to gain the reward of
- Allah Subhanahu wa Ta'ala. The reward
- from Allah Subhanahu wa Ta'ala.
- Therefore, in several previous studies,
- we talked about how the Prophet was so
- amazed by the attitude of the believer,
- "Ajaban li-amril mukmin." Truly amazing
- is the affair of the believer. Because
- everything, "Inna kullahu lahu khairun.
- " Indeed, everything for a believer is
- good. And such is not the case for
- anyone, "Illa lil mukmin." Except for a
- believer; when ease of life befalls
- them, they are grateful. "Fakana
- khairun lahu." So, being grateful for
- all the ease that Allah gives is the
- best attitude. "Wa in asabathu syar."
- And when difficulty befalls them, if
- earlier, what was it, when harm or
- difficulty hits them. fasaro or sabaro,
- meaning he is patient. Fakana khairun
- lahu. So when he is patient after being
- struck by harm or difficulty, and
- maintains a good opinion of Allah, that
- is the best attitude. To the point that
- , once again, the Prophet himself was
- amazed by his faithful followers. Now,
- in relation to the previous hadith and
- the one we are currently discussing,
- the attitude of a believer is taught by
- the Prophet, how he, may Allah bless
- him and grant him peace, exemplified
- and guided those who believed in him.
- It is then mentioned here that Allah
- Azza wa Jalla says—this is a hadith
- qudsi or divine hadith. Stating that if
- someone is patient when their beloved
- child is taken, there is no fitting
- reward for them except for the paradise
- of Allah Subhanahu wa Ta'ala. This is
- the fourth hadith in this chapter. Then
- in the next hadith, the fifth hadith in
- this chapter or the 924th hadith in the
- book Riyadh as-Salihin, from Usamah bin
- Zaid may Allah be pleased with them
- both, he said: "One of the daughters of
- the Prophet, may Allah bless him and
- grant him peace, sent word to him...""
- ...that her child was dying, so tell
- him...""...to seek reward from Allah."
- A hadith narrated by Bukhari and Muslim
- . Actually, this hadith is long, but
- because the issue being discussed is
- only about that part, we stop there. It
- is a mutfaq 'alaih hadith, meaning
- narrated by both Bukhari and Muslim.
- One of the daughters of the Prophet,
- may Allah bless him and grant him peace
- , sent someone to him to call him and
- inform him that one of her children was
- in the throes of death. Then the
- Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant
- him peace, said to his daughter's
- messenger, "Return to my daughter and
- tell her that to Allah belongs what He
- takes, and to Him belongs what He gives
- , and everything has an appointed time
- with Him." Therefore, tell her to be
- patient and seek the reward of Allah.
- This shows that the Prophet, may Allah
- bless him and grant him peace,
- continued to teach his daughter to
- always be steadfast and patient when
- losing a loved one. This also includes
- those dear to the Messenger, which in
- this category means his grandson, may
- Allah bless him and grant him peace.
- Yet, he still advised her that she
- should be patient. If we look, there is
- an explanation of the words. So, what
- is meant by "one of the daughters of
- the Prophet" is, according to the
- commentator of this hadith, Zainab, may
- Allah be pleased with her. Then "
- appointed time" means the limit that
- has been set; it is neither early nor
- delayed. So, the Prophet reminded his
- daughter that what happened to his
- grandchild, whether it was a boy or a
- girl, as mentioned there...Yes, the
- narrator here apparently does not
- clearly explain whether it refers to
- the son of Zainab or the daughter of
- Zainab. Yes. But what is clear is that
- the Prophet then specifically told his
- daughter's messenger to convey: "Return
- to my daughter and tell her that to
- Allah belongs what He takes, and to Him
- belongs what He gives, and everything
- has an appointed time with Him." Yes.
- Therefore, instruct her, referring to
- the person mentioned earlier, if it was
- Zainab, to be patient and seek the
- pleasure of Allah. Masha'Allah. So
- there truly is no other way, when
- someone loses their beloved, when their
- loved one’s soul is taken, they
- should be patient and hope only for
- Allah's pleasure. Do not let words that
- are displeasing to Allah be spoken, let
- alone words that He hates. From this
- hadith, we can see once again the
- encouragement to advise patience during
- a tragedy. So if we are struck by a
- tragedy and someone says "be patient,"
- that is indeed a necessity. However,
- the one giving advice should go beyond
- just saying "be patient." Instead, they
- should support and help the person
- affected by the tragedy to be able to
- remain patient. Yes, in this case, if
- one is able to seek comfort, then it is
- a Sunnah for the neighbors of the
- person struck by the tragedy. They
- should be the ones to provide food.
- They should be the ones who then
- provide, what is it called? Provide
- comfort to the person struck by the
- tragedy. Although this is not absolute,
- because there are people who, despite
- being struck by tragedy, remain
- open-hearted, and they are also
- well-off—what I mean by well-off is
- wealthy. So we cannot forbid them if
- they wish to honor those who come to
- their house by providing something for
- them. Especially if those who come to
- their house are not just close
- neighbors, but distant ones as well.
- Returning to the issue. So here, we
- cannot forbid it because there are too
- many reasons from various parties who
- come to offer comfort; they truly want
- to console and soothe the soul of the
- one struck by tragedy. But if the
- person affected by the tragedy has
- strong faith and they also want to,
- what is it? Honor the people who come
- by providing what they can, then once
- again, that cannot be strictly
- forbidden. Meaning we are not allowed
- to forbid them. Because, what is it?
- When they use the proof that "whoever
- believes in Allah and the Last Day
- should honor their guest," then we
- cannot simply use a different argument
- to refute them; we cannot. It is just
- that for their neighbors, it becomes a
- necessity to comfort them. Comforting
- can be done by, as mentioned, handling
- and honoring the people who come to
- them, and not at their house. That is
- what some scholars say. Because among
- them, some say that eating at the place
- of a death is the same as wailing. But
- this statement is from some, if I am
- not mistaken, from the Tabi'in
- generation. But then there are many
- hadiths that we cannot deny, we cannot
- simply reject just like that. that when
- they are struck by a disaster but then
- wish to do good, once again, we cannot
- then forbid them. Because once again,
- especially in this calamity, they are
- still asked to be patient, asked to
- hope for goodness from Allah Subhanahu
- wa ta'ala, the forms of which are very
- varied. I think these two hadiths serve
- as an introduction to our study this
- afternoon. We should, once again,
- provide motivation. We who are struck
- by disaster should also think
- positively, be patient, and seek the
- goodness and pleasure of Allah
- Subhanahu wa ta'ala. Now, if that is
- what is expected by those struck by
- disaster, then the neighbors of the
- afflicted should also support and
- motivate them to always remember Allah,
- say istirja, and be pleased with the
- disaster. Yes, convey that this is
- Allah's decree which cannot be
- bargained with. This is a decree that
- has arrived at its appointed time. It
- cannot be accelerated, nor can it be
- delayed. as the Prophet stated to his
- daughter. Yes, the important thing,
- once again, is that condolences are
- meant to comfort so that the heart of
- the afflicted remains attached to Allah
- Subhanahu wa ta'ala. I think that is
- all that can be presented. May Allah's
- peace and blessings be upon our Prophet
- Muhammad. And Allah knows best. Alright
- , brothers and sisters. That was the
- lecture delivered by Ustadz Ahmad Saleh
- on this afternoon's occasion, within
- our ongoing study of the book Riyadus
- Salihin regarding the way to guide the
- dying. My apologies. Then
- what is
- what is said by the deceased
- to us who are left behind. Yes.
- Alright, brothers and sisters who are
- blessed by Allah Subhanahu wa ta'ala,
- we will return shortly after the
- following break.
