- Peace be upon you Whoever Allah guides,
- none can misguide, and whoever He
- leaves astray, none can guide. I bear
- witness that there is no god but Allah,
- alone, without partner. And I bear
- witness that our master Muhammad is His
- servant and messenger. Whatever Allah
- wills, happens, and whatever He does
- not will, does not happen. There is no
- power nor strength except by Allah. To
- proceed. Brothers and sisters who are
- deeply loved by Allah Subhanahu wa
- ta'ala. Praise be to Allah, tonight we
- can gather again through our literal
- Quran translation study. On Friday
- night last week, we reached the 14th
- verse of Surah An-Nahl. Starting last
- week, we stepped into or began Surah
- An-Nahl and praise be to Allah, we have
- reached the 14th verse. Ah, tonight we
- will study the verses that follow until
- it is nearly Isha time. We begin by
- reading the prayer for seeking
- knowledge. In the name of Allah, the
- Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. My
- Lord, increase me in knowledge. O Allah
- , benefit me with what You have taught
- me, and teach me what benefits me, and
- provide me with knowledge that benefits
- me. Amen. We begin with the 15th verse.
- I seek refuge in Allah from the
- accursed Satan. In the name of Allah,
- the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
- And He cast into the earth mountains,
- lest it shake with you, and rivers and
- roads, that you may be guided. And
- landmarks, and by the stars they are
- guided. Two verses at once, yes. Wa
- alqo. And He has placed on the earth,
- mountains. Antamida so that they,
- antamida so that you (ee) can, antamida
- so the earth does not shake, so that
- the earth does not wobble. Bikum with
- you, wanharon and rivers, wasubulan and
- paths, laallakum so that you tahtadun
- find guidance, wa alamat and He, Allah,
- created landmarks as direction markers,
- wabin najmi by the stars, hum they
- yahtadun find guidance. Overall meaning
- : And He, Allah, placed mountains on
- the earth so the earth does not shake
- with you, and He created rivers and
- paths so that you may be guided, and He
- also created landmarks as direction
- markers, and by the stars they find
- guidance. These are the blessings of
- Allah Subhanahu wa ta'ala meant for
- humans. Is it possible that the
- brothers are not aware? Namely, the
- creation of mountains. That is to make
- this earth firm. Because indeed, this
- earth is like a vessel or boat on the
- surface of the water. If there were no
- heavy objects inside, it would wobble.
- So, so it does not wobble, Allah
- Subhanahu wa ta'ala placed mountains.
- So, the main function of the mountain
- is as a weight for the earth so that
- the earth does not ee shake. Well,
- carrying all of us. Masha Allah, yes.
- So, this is one of the blessings of
- Allah Subhanahu wa ta'ala. So, so the
- earth does not shake, does not wobble,
- mountains are provided, mountains are
- also created. Then the rivers whose
- water we can use. Masha Allah, without
- rivers. We can imagine how difficult
- this life would be. Then after that,
- Allah made paths from one place to
- another, to make it easy, Allah made
- paths. Then landmarks, signs to be made
- ee direction markers for those who walk
- on the face of the earth. Oh, this
- mountain is here, this hill is in its
- place. Well, those are certain signs.
- And then Allah also created stars, to
- serve as guidance both for those at sea
- and those on land. These, my brothers,
- are all the blessings bestowed upon us.
- Next, verses 17-18. Afamay yakhluqu la
- yakhluq afala tadzakarun. Wain ta'uddu
- n'matallahi laa tuhsuha. Innallaha
- laghfurur rahim. Afamay yakhluq? Is He
- who creates the same as those who
- cannot create? Afala tadzakkarun. Will
- you not take a lesson? Wain ta'uddu,
- and if you count n'matallahi, the
- blessings of Allah, la tuhsuha. You
- will not be able to fathom them. To
- distinguish between ta'uddu. So, that
- is counting physically. Tuhsu, ahsa is
- sometimes non-physical. Innallaha,
- indeed Allah, laghfurun, is truly
- All-Forgiving. Rahimun, and
- All-Merciful. The overall meaning of
- verses 17-18. And is Allah who creates
- the same as those who cannot create?
- Why do you not take a lesson? Verse 18.
- And if you count the blessings of Allah
- , you will not be able to number them.
- Indeed, Allah is truly All-Forgiving,
- All-Merciful. Now, after Allah
- Subhanahu wa ta'ala explains about His
- creation, He then asks rhetorically, "
- Now, is Allah who creates the same as
- creatures that do not create? Think
- about it, why do you worship others
- besides Allah?" It is clear they do not
- create. So, worship Allah who created
- us all. Then Allah further states, "If
- you count the blessings of Allah, eh,
- you will not be able to." So we count
- the blessings of Allah, just try, we
- are unable to determine their number,
- unable. And Allah is All-Forgiving for
- those who do not show gratitude for the
- blessings; they are forgiven.
- Especially if they are willing to show
- gratitude for the blessings of Allah.
- Rahim, All-Merciful. Even if they are
- not grateful, they still receive
- affection from Allah. Given affection
- by Allah. As long as they are in the
- world, yes. Even if they do not pray,
- they are still given food by Allah.
- Even if they are not obedient to Allah,
- they are still given drink, and so on.
- Next, verse 19 20 and 21. Wallahu
- ya'lamu maa tusirruna wama tu'linun.
- Walladzina yad'una min dunillahi la
- yakhluquuna la yakhluquuna syai'an
- wahum yukhlaquun. Amwatun ghairu ahya.
- Wama yasy'uruna ayyana yub'atsun.
- Wallahu, and Allah, ya'lamu, knows ma
- tusirruna, what you conceal, wama
- tu'linun, and what you reveal.
- Walladzina, and those whom, yad'una,
- they call upon and worship. Min
- dunillahi, besides Allah. La
- yakhluquuna, they cannot create syai'an
- , anything, wahum, while they,
- yukhlaquun, are created. Amwatun, they
- are dead objects, ghairu ahya, not
- alive, wama yasy'uruna, and they have
- no feelings. Meaning the idols
- worshipped besides Allah, do they know,
- that is the language. Wama, and not, la
- yasy'urun. They know or possess
- feelings. Ayyana, when, yub'atsun, will
- humans be resurrected? Verse 19.
- Further, Allah states, "And Allah knows
- what you conceal and what you reveal."
- And the idols that they call upon
- besides Allah cannot create anything.
- While those idols themselves are made
- by people. Why do you worship them? It
- becomes funny, yes, even foolish. Idols
- are inanimate objects, they are not
- alive. And those idols do not know when
- their worshippers will be resurrected.
- This is the weakness of anything
- worshipped other than Allah Subhanahu
- wa ta'ala. Furthermore, Allah declares
- that because all these deities are
- false, Allah emphasizes, "Ilahukum
- ilahun wahid.""Falladzina la yu'minuna
- bil-akhirati qulubuhum munkiratun wa
- hum mustakbirun.""Ilahukum"(your God)
- is "ilahun," a God, "wahidun"(who is
- One). "Falladina la yu'minuna.""So
- those who do not believe""bil-akhirati"
- (in the afterlife). "Qulubuhum"(their
- hearts) "munkiratun"(are denying). "Wa
- hum." And they are "mustakbirun"(
- arrogant). The overall meaning of verse
- 22. Your God is the One God. Those who
- do not believe in the afterlife, their
- hearts deny the oneness of Allah and
- they are arrogant people. Actually,
- naturally, the human heart tends to
- acknowledge that Allah is One. But then
- , it is "munkirah," denied. Now, this
- is the falsehood, yes. They reject the
- existence of Allah even though, in
- reality, their hearts accept it. So
- here, it is "munkirah," and they are
- arrogant; even though they actually
- know it is a wrong deed, they still do
- it because arrogance prevents one from
- accepting the truth. Furthermore, Allah
- states, "La jaroma annallaha ya'lamu ma
- yusirruna wa ma yu'linun.""Innahu la
- yuhibbul-mustakbirin.""La jaroma" means
- without a doubt, certainly. "Annallaha"
- means that Allah "ya'lamu"(knows) "ma
- yusirruna"(what they hide) "wa ma
- yu'linun"(and what they reveal). "
- Innahu"(indeed) Allah "la yuhibbu"(does
- not like) "al-mustakbirin"(the arrogant
- ones). The overall meaning of verse 23:
- without a doubt, Allah knows what they
- hide and what they reveal. Indeed,
- Allah does not like the arrogant. So,
- Allah knows what they hide in the form
- of denial against Allah Subhanahu wa
- ta'ala and their arrogance, which makes
- them refuse to accept. What they reveal
- ; what they hide, as well as what they
- reveal, are deeds that can be seen from
- their disbelief. So, what is in the
- heart is known, what is visible is
- known, and Allah is not pleased with
- the arrogant. Yes. So, the person who
- does not accept the truth is an
- arrogant person. Therefore, let us not
- become arrogant people. On the Day of
- Judgment, Allah states, "
- Innal-mutaqabbirina amthalud-dharri
- yaumal-qiyamati yata'alaquhumun-nasu
- bi-aqdamihim." Indeed, on the Day of
- Judgment, the arrogant will be like
- dust trodden upon by people. Like small
- insects, crushed by their feet because
- they used to be arrogant. Furthermore,
- Allah states, "Wa idza qila lahum madza
- ...""...anzala rabbukum?""...qalu...""
- ...qalu asatirul-awwalin.""...liyahmilu
- ...""...awzarahum...""...kamilatan
- yaumal-qiyamah.""Wa min awzarilladzina
- yudillunahum bighairi 'ilm.""Ala sa'a
- ...""...ma yazirun.""Wa idza"(and when)
- "qila lahum"(it is said to them) "madza
- anzala"(what has) your Lord revealed?
- They say, "...""...those are just tales
- of the people...""...of old.""Liyahmilu
- "(so they may bear) "awzarahum"(their
- burdens/sins) "kamilatan"(completely) "
- yaumal-qiyamati"(on the Day of Judgment
- ), "wa min awzarilladzina"(and from the
- burdens of those who...)(and from the
- sins of those) yudilluna (whom they)
- yudillunahum (whom they lead astray)
- bighairi' ilmin (without knowledge).
- What knowledge? Ala, know this, surely.
- How evil is ma yazirun. What is it that
- they bear? Verse 24 states: and when it
- is said to them, those who worshipped
- besides Allah and were arrogant, when
- it is said, "What is it that your Lord
- has sent down?" They answer, "
- Dismissively. That is only the fables
- of the ancients." Verse 25, Allah
- emphasizes that their words cause them
- to bear their own sins perfectly on the
- Day of Resurrection. And some of the
- sins of those whom they led astray, who
- did not know at all that they were
- being led astray. Remember, how evil is
- the burden they bear. Now, this is the
- recompense for the arrogant, where they
- will bear their own sins. Allah states
- "kamilatan," perfectly, not reduced in
- the slightest, not erased in the
- slightest. Even though they might have
- previously received punishment in the
- world through torments, suffering,
- disasters, and so on, it will not
- reduce the torment they will receive on
- the Day of Resurrection. Added to the
- sins of those they led astray, those
- who were led astray without knowing
- they were being misled. Now, this,
- brothers all, is the recompense for the
- arrogant who previously said that
- religion is just fables of the ancients
- . Even the communists say it is an
- opiate for the masses. Verse 26. Qad
- makaralladzina min qoblihim faatallahu
- bunyahum minal qawaidi fakharro alaihim
- , fakharro alaihimus saqfu min fauqihim
- wa ataahumul adzabu min haitsu laa
- yasy'urun. Makaru: indeed they have
- plotted. Makaro: we mean, indeed they
- have plotted. Alladzina: those people.
- Min qoblihim: from before them.
- Faatallahu: then Allah brought.
- Bunyanahum: their buildings. Minal
- qawaidi: from the foundations. Fakharro
- : then it collapsed. 'Alaihim: upon
- them. As-saqfu: the roof from above.
- Min fauqihim: from above them. Wa
- ataahumul' adzab: and the torment came
- to them. Min haitsu la yasy'urun: from
- where they do not perceive. The full
- meaning: People before them had plotted
- , so Allah destroyed their houses from
- the foundations. Then the roof of the
- house fell upon them, and the torment
- came to them when they did not perceive
- it. So, this is the torment given by
- Allah to those arrogant people. Where
- Allah will destroy their buildings from
- the foundations until the roof
- collapses upon them from above.
- Certainly, because the roof is above,
- and the torment comes to them when they
- do not perceive it. This is Allah's
- warning, and this will continue to
- apply, brothers all. Hopefully, we
- realize how weak this life is without
- the guidance of Allah Subhanahu wa
- ta'ala. So let us immediately humble
- ourselves, realizing our weakness and
- realizing the greatness of Allah
- Subhanahu wa ta'ala. So let us not use
- the attributes of Allah, the Great, the
- Most Great, for ourselves, leading us
- to become arrogant people who will
- ultimately be destroyed by Allah
- Subhanahu wa ta'ala. They will perish
- where the foundations of their homes
- are shaken by Allah. Then their roofs
- collapse upon them, and they ultimately
- perish beneath those structures without
- them even realizing it. Wallahu a'lam
- bish-shawab. Jazakumullah khairan for
- your attention, and forgive all my
- shortcomings. Let us conclude tonight's
- study by reciting the Kaffaratul Majlis
- . Subhanakallahumma wabihamdika ashadu
- alla ilaha illa anta astaghfiruka wa
- atubu ilaik. Assalamu'alaikum
- warahmatullahi wabarakatuh.
