- Master of the Day of Judgment. You
- alone we worship, and You alone we ask

- have finished reciting Al-Fatihah. May
- Allah make it easy for us to understand
- what is conveyed by Ustaz Husein and

- Habibullah in Banyuwangi, Radio Rasa in
- Palembang, Radio Rasil Mersi in
- Yogyakarta, Radio Almas in Magelang,
- then also Radio Luciana Number One in
- Semarang, and community radio in
- Bondowoso. Well, we meet again in the
- Ulumul Quran program. We will still
- take up the theme of why the Muslim
- community is regressing while
- non-Muslims are progressing. The
- introduction will be delivered by Ustaz
- Alfan Sunardi. To Ustaz Alfan, please
- proceed.
- In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious
- , the Most Merciful. Peace be upon you,
- and Allah's mercy and blessings. Peace
- be upon you too.
- Praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds.
- Abundant, good, and blessed praise as
- our Lord loves and is pleased with. O
- Allah, send prayers and peace upon Your
- servant and messenger, our master
- Muhammad, and upon his family, the pure
- and clean, and his honorable companions
- , the righteous and chosen, and those
- who follow them with excellence until
- the Day of Judgment. Exalted are You;
- we have no knowledge except what You
- have taught us. Indeed, it is You who
- is the Knowing, the Wise. My Lord,
- expand for me my chest, ease for me my
- task, and untie the knot from my tongue
- , so they may understand my speech.
- Furthermore. Brothers and sisters of
- the congregation, loyal listeners and
- viewers of Silaturahim television, we
- hope and pray to Allah that we are
- always protected by Allah with His
- mercy so that we are spared from anger,
- danger, disaster, disease, and what has
- recently been happening everywhere. As
- small, weak human beings, whose
- knowledge is very limited, we are
- unable to save ourselves except by
- asking for help and pinning our hopes,
- preceded by diligent effort. Raising
- hands, weeping, praying, admitting our
- oppression, darkness, and faults to
- Allah. Constantly reciting istighfar is
- one of the keys for Allah to help us
- all. Congregation honored by Allah, we
- are still discussing a question: why is
- the Muslim community backward and left
- behind, while other communities are
- advancing? And this is a reality that
- we are witnessing right now. Where
- countries consisting of people who do
- not believe in Allah are enjoying
- prosperity. They are moving forward.
- Even when we look at their natural
- resources, they also do not have
- natural resources. One example is
- Singapore. What does Singapore have?
- Yet they are advanced. So it is
- appropriate for us to address this
- question primarily to ourselves. Why is
- Singapore advanced? While we are people
- who believe in Allah Subhanahu wa
- ta'ala. Why are we backward? In line
- with this, Allah also describes, for
- example, in Surah An-Nahl verse 112,
- Allah says: "And Allah presents an
- example: a city which was safe and
- secure, its provision coming to it in
- abundance from every location, but it
- denied the favors of Allah. So Allah
- made it taste the garment of hunger and
- fear for what they had been doing." The
- conclusion from this verse is that
- Allah has provided a parable of a
- country that is beautiful, a country
- that is fertile, extraordinary. Its
- natural resources all around its
- borders are truly very impressive. But
- it is not prosperous. Why? Fakafarat
- bi-an’umillah (They denied the favors
- of Allah). Its people are ungrateful to
- Allah Subhanahu wa ta'ala, not
- realizing the sharia laws from Allah.
- So Allah afflicted them with a garment
- that is very worrying, in the form of a
- garment of hunger and fear. Well, it
- seems that what fits and is very
- suitable as an example of this verse is
- our own country. Our country is fertile
- , extraordinary, but we are full of
- fear and worry. The proof is that
- disasters happen everywhere. Which
- overlap and take turns, never ending.
- So what is wrong with our country?
- Therefore, we also ask this basic
- question to our teacher together, to
- Ustaz Husein, what is happening in our
- country? Even though Allah promised
- that the believers would become leaders
- . And to prepare to be these leaders,
- on average, the believers live in
- fertile lands. But in reality, until
- now, we are not yet sovereign, not yet
- prominent, not yet clear, not yet
- advanced. These Muslims, it is
- precisely those who do not believe who
- are advanced, enjoying extraordinary
- prosperity. Now, as an opening or as a
- preamble, that is the material that we
- contemplate and ask about. God willing,
- our teacher will elaborate, and
- hopefully, we will gain knowledge so
- that we are each motivated to become an
- advanced society. Therefore, we welcome
- you to the time and place. That is all,
- Ustaz.
- I seek refuge in Allah from the
- accursed Satan.
- In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious
- , the Most Merciful. All praise is due
- to Allah, Lord of the worlds. An
- abundant, good, and blessed praise as
- our Lord loves and is pleased with. O
- Allah, send prayers, greetings, and
- blessings upon Your servant and Your
- messenger. Our master and our Prophet
- Muhammad, and upon his family and
- companions, and grant peace. Exalted
- are You, we have no knowledge except
- what You have taught us; indeed, it is
- You who is the All-Knowing, the Wise.
- And there is no power and no strength
- except by Allah, the Most High, the
- Almighty. Our Lord, increase us in
- knowledge. O Allah, we seek refuge in
- You. From being humiliated. O Allah,
- benefit us with what You have taught us
- . Furthermore. Brothers and sisters,
- listeners and viewers of Radio TV
- Silaturahim who are blessed by Allah.
- Ustaz Alfan Sunardi, who is
- accompanying us this morning in our
- morning dialogue. Also accompanied by
- Ibu Ustaz Muhammad Presna Oni and all
- the crew of our children who are
- conducting training. To all Muslim men
- and women, to all the children of the
- nation. Who are listening to our
- broadcast and watching this morning, in
- order to. examining and understanding
- the causes of the decline of Muslims
- and the progress of those outside of
- Islam. Whereas Allah Subhanahu wa
- ta'ala promised those who believe and
- do righteous deeds that He would make
- them successors on earth. Just as
- history records the believers among the
- followers of Noah, the followers of the
- Prophet of Allah Hud, the followers of
- the Prophet of Allah Salih, the
- followers of the Prophet of Allah
- Abraham, the followers of the Prophet
- of Allah Shu'ayb. Likewise, the
- followers of the Prophet of Allah Moses
- . How Allah Subhanahu wa ta'ala honored
- them after the bitter struggles they
- faced, being chased, hunted, and
- intimidated. They emerged from their
- suffering when they believed in Allah,
- when they answered the call of Allah
- Subhanahu wa ta'ala. Likewise the
- followers of the prophets who came
- after that. As we witness the glory
- once experienced by David, Solomon. And
- the honor that Allah gave to Joseph
- because of his faith, patience, and
- piety. Not because of following the
- crowd, or following the temptations of
- desires. But he explained the reason
- for the honor he obtained. Innahu
- yattaqi waasbir fainnallaha la yudiu
- ajral muhsinin. Indeed, those who are
- pious toward Allah, and uphold the
- messages of Allah's guidance. Are
- patient in facing various trials and
- tribulations; Allah will not let the
- reward for those who do good go to
- waste. At the beginning of Joseph's
- life, he was persecuted. He was opposed
- by his own half-brothers. They even
- heartlessly threw him into a well. Then
- Joseph was sold in the slave market
- until he was cared for by a leader of
- the land of Egypt. Then he faced trials
- from the woman who was the wife of the
- leader of Egypt, with her beauty and
- status. But he still refused. He truly
- wanted to walk in the pleasure of Allah
- . For the sake of maintaining the
- purity of his life, he was willing to
- go to prison. He did not complain even
- in the slightest. Until finally, after
- Allah proved his character before
- mankind, Allah raised him up before the
- leaders of the land of Egypt. Allah
- Subhanahu wa ta'ala honored him before
- his envious and jealous brothers until
- they said, "Laqadarakallahu alaina."
- Indeed, Allah has preferred you over us
- . With what? With patience, piety, and
- struggle. Likewise the Prophet of Allah
- Jesus, peace be upon him. Allah
- Subhanahu wa ta'ala honored him. Allah
- raised him to His side, and He made his
- followers until the Day of Judgment—
- what are they? They are those who are
- in the highest position. Who are the
- followers of Jesus? Those who follow
- Jesus are those who follow our Prophet.
- Because what was conveyed by our
- Prophet is the same as what was
- conveyed by Jesus, from prophet to
- prophet, from messenger to messenger,
- generation after generation, all
- conveying the same trust because the
- One who sent them was
- Allah Subhanahu wa ta'ala with the same
- message, inviting mankind to return to
- Allah and leave the worship of false
- idols, as the worship of desires is
- part of the worship of idols instead of
- Allah. Abandoning Allah is also a form
- of worship. Therefore, on this
- morning's occasion, we will enter our
- second session in answering the
- question: limza taakharal muslimuna wa
- taqaddama ghairuhum. Why are Muslims or
- the Islamic community falling behind,
- while those outside of Islam are moving
- forward? Well, I greet the listeners
- and viewers with what Allah has taught
- us. Salamullahi warahmatullah
- wabarakatuh.
- Brothers and sisters, listeners and
- viewers, may you be honored by Allah
- subhanahu wa ta'ala. When Allah
- Subhanahu wa ta'ala promises us, the
- believers, and those who do righteous
- deeds, that He will honor them above
- other nations. What is that promise
- linked to? To a condition. Linked to a
- condition. When Allah says, "
- Waadallahuladzina amanu minkum
- wa'amilush-shalihat." Allah promises
- those among you who believe and perform
- righteous deeds. So we must understand
- that those promised by Allah are those
- who believe. Then they prove it by
- performing righteous deeds. As for
- those who claim to be Muslims but do
- not fulfill these two conditions, they
- are not included in the promise of
- Allah Subhanahu wa ta'ala. And we need
- to understand that religion is not just
- limited to the readings we read in
- books, whether in holy scriptures or
- written by scholars, or by memorizing
- hundreds of thousands of hadiths, or by
- our ability to dialogue at major
- gatherings to prove the truth of Islam.
- It is not just limited to this; this is
- only theoretical. But religion only
- becomes a faith that fulfills its
- promise when we integrate it into our
- lives. What does religion command us
- all to do? To make Allah the only
- object of our worship and the purpose
- of our lives. Where we connect every
- aspect of our lives, both small and
- large, with Allah.
- Therefore, there is not a single part
- of our lives, small or large, that is
- detached from what? The guidance and
- direction of Allah, if we claim to be
- believers. Just as Allah asserts, "Qul
- inna salati wa nusuki." Not just prayer
- and worship. "Wamahyaya wa mamati
- lillahi rabbil 'alamin, la sharika lahu
- , wa bidzalika umirtu wa ana awwalul
- muslimin." When we connect our lives to
- Allah, obeying His guidance and
- instructions, then Allah's promise will
- be fulfilled. Religion is not just what
- we memorize from the verses of Allah,
- from the hadiths of His Prophet, or the
- large number of books we read. But
- religion guides us toward a righteous
- life. "Inna hadzal Qur'ana yahdi
- lillati hiya aqwam." Indeed, this
- Qur'an guides us toward a life that is
- more righteous. Therefore, The Qur'an
- with its guidance, and the Messenger
- with his sunnah, invite us to live with
- noble character. Not pretense, not just
- a label or packaging or an accessory,
- but really what? We adorn ourselves
- with morals and character, where the
- word' akhlaq 'is taken from' khuluq '.
- The root word is the same as' khalaqa
- yakhluqu khalqan '. It is said that'
- akhlaq 'are things that are truly what?
- Things that are integrated into our
- personalities. Not just pretense, not
- just manners that we display. Because
- that is not' akhlaq ', but ethics.
- Because ethics, originally taken from
- the Greek language, is' ethos ', which
- means a mask. Therefore, we witness
- business ethics and marketing ethics.
- That is what is displayed by them when
- they are offering, marketing what?
- Their goods or their business, but it
- does not represent their personality.
- Like a flight attendant who greets us
- kindly on a plane. What is that? Ethics
- taught to flight attendants to welcome,
- yes, those who are, who are, um,
- passengers and their clients to attract
- the passengers. But once we meet at
- immigration, in the waiting room, if we
- ask them for service like we asked on
- the plane,
- they won't even turn to look at us at
- all. Because what they are doing is not
- character. What are they doing?
- Ethics.
- Ethics.
- Image building. Image building. Well,
- God does not want religion to be just
- image building. Wearing a cap,
- wearing a robe, wearing a turban. But
- what God wants is for religion to truly
- integrate into our hearts, influencing
- our character and our personality.
- And that falls into the category of
- righteous deeds.
- Now, this is what is called a righteous
- deed. Honesty, for example, and
- trustworthiness. These two traits will
- what? They will truly build trust in
- the life of the nation and state;
- without honesty and trustworthiness,
- then what? Then no trust will be born
- among the nation's children, among one
- another, or between the people and
- their leaders or leaders and the people
- . When honesty and trustworthiness
- vanish, what will happen is unrest.
- What will happen is instability that
- will plague the life of the nation and
- state. Now, we encounter countries
- where the majority of the population is
- Muslim, like, let's say, Saudi Arabia,
- the Arab Emirates, yes, including
- Indonesia. If we look, there are many
- clever people in our country. The
- clever people in our country are very
- many, but those who are truly honest
- and have the trait of trustworthiness
- are very few, not only among officials
- or the general public, but even within
- the circles of scholars. As if religion
- were only a display. As if religion
- were only mastery from an intellectual
- perspective, not an internalization and
- practice. Whereas to become an advanced
- nation, knowledge is needed. What is
- needed? Knowledge. But knowledge
- without being practiced honestly will
- not produce results. Is that not true?
- For example, an engineer, when they are
- constructing a building, supposedly
- with the demands of their knowledge,
- they must truly be honest. Because
- nature does not accept lies. Nature
- does not accept what? Lies. Even if
- it's covered up, the symptoms will
- appear when they reduce what? Reducing
- the depth of the foundation. Where that
- foundation should be in a solid and
- strong condition. Its capacity adjusted
- to the height of the building. A
- foundation only capable of supporting a
- five-story building, suddenly built to
- 10 stories. In normal times, it's not
- visible. But once there is a tremor or
- an earthquake, yes, the building has
- the potential to collapse and be
- destroyed. This is proven by what we
- experienced in Egypt. Egypt is a region
- safe from earthquakes. Safe from
- e-earthquakes. It is an area considered
- relatively safe. Therefore, look at the
- pyramids that have lasted thousands of
- years, without any damage. When we were
- in Egypt, the Egyptians, the ones who
- built their structures, many engineers
- committed fraud. Buildings were meant
- for five floors, but they built ten.
- With a number of flats, what kind of
- flats? Apartments, that exceeded the
- foundation's capacity. There was
- cutting corners here and there. The
- buildings were finished, people moved
- in, and belongings were brought inside.
- Glory be to God. Unexpected events
- occurred. An earthquake struck Egypt
- that they hadn't anticipated at all. As
- soon as the earthquake hit, almost the
- majority of buildings in Cairo
- collapsed. Because these new buildings
- were all constructed without meeting
- structural requirements. Even though
- they were built by educated people. But
- because they betrayed their knowledge,
- were dishonest and untrustworthy, it
- finally caused terrible casualties. The
- same thing happened at the sports arena
- built for what? For a student dormitory
- for those from abroad, called Madinatul
- Buut al-Islamiyah, the city inhabited
- by what? By foreign students, where we
- resided. Across from it, they built a
- sports arena. Once finished, the
- inspectors saw the condition of the
- building and its construction, and they
- refused to give their approval. And
- what happened? The engineers were
- arrested for committing betrayal.
- Cracks appeared; when they performed a
- stress test, it turned out the building
- was completely unfit due to fraud. So,
- the damage occurred because of a lack
- of honesty and integrity. This is an
- act detested by Allah Subhanahu wa
- Ta'ala. Whereas, the requirements for
- believers promised salvation, success,
- and victory by Allah are those who are
- faithful to their trusts, and
- their promises. Those who truly guard
- their trusts and their promises—that
- is one of what? One of the criteria for
- those promised success and prosperity.
- Up to the word of Allah. Now, how can
- we Muslims progress and trust one
- another if honesty and integrity are
- lost? But many people who understand
- religion think this is a minor issue.
- After that, we donate the proceeds of
- what? Our dishonesty; a portion we
- spend in the way of Allah. We invite
- scholars to ask for forgiveness for us,
- to pray for us. Bridges they built
- through cheating, which didn't meet
- construction requirements, they
- summoned scholars, clerics, and
- descendants of the Prophet to pray over
- them. It turns out nature, or Allah,
- does not accept lies. Not long after,
- the bridge suffered damage. Then the
- Muslims, instead of admitting their
- mistakes, they say what? "O Allah, we
- gave charity when we built it.""We
- invited scholars, clerics, and
- descendants of the Prophet when it was
- finished.""Why is the bridge we Muslims
- built easily damaged, while the bridge
- built by disbelievers lasts so long?"
- Instead of them doing what?
- Self-reflection, right? Noticing their
- mistakes so they can correct them, but
- instead, they do what? Blaming the
- destiny of Allah Subhanahu wa Ta'ala.
- Now, this kind of religious
- understanding is one that can damage
- our religious life and even create
- doubts about religion. Meanwhile, for
- people outside of Islam, we look at
- those who we consider to not share our
- faith. Witness how New Zealand is
- currently the country that has most
- quickly avoided COVID. To the point
- that the COVID outbreak is said to no
- longer be spreading in New Zealand.
- While in our country, Indonesia,
- it is still a scourge.
- It is still a scourge. It has already
- claimed 1 million victims. What is the
- reason? It is not because Allah is
- unjust, but because we have forgotten
- the guidance of our religion. Lies are
- still rampant, dishonesty continues,
- and even the money used to combat COVID
- is what?
- Still being corrupted. Social aid is
- also being corrupted. We witness how,
- in the midst of this disaster, we
- should return to repenting to Allah. We
- still act arrogant and haughty. We even
- commit injustices by shedding the blood
- of innocent people without any basis of
- truth. How will Allah's help come to us
- ? Therefore, those who desire progress
- must do so through knowledge. It must
- be with knowledge; without knowledge,
- it is impossible for us to experience
- progress. Therefore, the first verse
- revealed in the Qur'an, which was
- revealed to our Prophet Muhammad, may
- Allah honor him and grant him peace,
- began with what? In the name of Allah,
- the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
- Read. But not just any "read." Because
- if it is just reading without
- connecting to Allah, it will not
- receive the promise from Allah. But "
- read in the name of your Lord who
- created." Read in the name of your Lord
- who created. The command to read here
- does not specify a particular object.
- So what does it mean? The command here
- instructs us to learn and to seek
- knowledge. Seek knowl, seek knowledge.
- But all of that cannot be separated
- from what? The goal of seeking Allah's
- pleasure. Even though at the time this
- verse was revealed, Gabriel showed the
- pages of the Qur'an. The pages of the
- Qur, the Qur'an. But it is not limited
- to just reading and studying the Qur'an
- . Therefore, Allah did not specify the
- object. Even though Gabriel said to the
- Prophet, "Iqra, read." So, read in the
- name of your Lord who created. Read in
- the name of your Lord who created. The
- entire universe is Allah's creation.
- Study it, reflect on it. Allah in the
- Qur'an invites us to do what? To
- reflect on the signs of His greatness
- and majesty. Where in this universe,
- nothing is created in vain, without
- purpose, or by chance. Everything is
- truly what? Created with laws and rules
- that are interconnected according to
- the laws set by Allah. And the one who
- established these laws is—therefore,
- when Allah wants to prove His oneness,
- to prove what? His oneness, His purity,
- Allah says, "Glorify the name of your
- Lord, the Most High." Glorify the name
- of your Lord, the Most High. Because
- Allah is an entity that we cannot
- possibly what? We can depict. An entity
- that is most pure, most great, who is
- not bound by dimensions of space or
- time, and who is beyond the reach of
- our sight. So, God makes His name the
- object that we should do what with?
- Glorify. Sabbihismaikal a'la. Glorify
- the name of your Lord, the Most High,
- the Supreme. Alladzi laisa kam alladzi
- khalaq, the Creator. Fasawa, creating
- everything with perfect balance. When
- creating something, when exactly?
- Placing or creating things in their
- proper state with perfect balance and
- perfection. Maaro fi khalqir rahman min
- tafaud. You will not find any imbalance
- in the creation of the Most Merciful.
- Alladzi khalaqo fasawa. Then after that
- , God continues, walladzi qaddaro
- fahada. And for the creatures God
- created, He established measures, laws,
- and rules. Yes, measures, laws, and
- rules. Then God Subhanahu wa ta'ala
- guides us to study and understand them.
- Giving us intellect, teaching us
- knowledge so we can study the natural
- laws governing this universe. From
- these laws, it turns out, in the past,
- Muslims researched and studied until
- they were known as what? As nations
- that produced advanced scientists in
- the fields of science. Before the West
- advanced, they were still in the Dark
- Ages. Muslims were already advanced,
- becoming pioneers of knowledge. And the
- West witnessed or testified to that
- fact. But since Muslims abandoned their
- religious guidance where religion and
- their lives did not unite, where
- religion did not sink into their hearts
- , religion only became what? Became a
- discourse. Religion was only limited to
- theory that what? That is debated and
- discussed, not becoming a guide for
- life. From that moment, Muslims fell
- behind, while people outside of Islam
- experienced progress. Once Muslims were
- not honest, were not trustworthy, and
- betrayed their religious guidance,
- their behavior naturally deviated.
- Those who were once honest became what?
- Liars. Those who were once trustworthy
- became treacherous. Because of what?
- Because they were no longer bound by
- God's guidance. Meanwhile, the West or
- people outside of Islam realized that
- it is impossible for them to advance,
- impossible to develop without knowledge
- . But with knowledge alone, it is not
- enough. Honesty, trustworthiness, and
- hard work are required. This is what we
- see, yes, from where? From the advanced
- nations today. If we were to compare
- Indonesia's natural wealth with
- Singapore, Singapore is nothing in
- comparison. In fact, Singapore is
- richer than Indonesia. If we compare
- Indonesia with Korea, Korea South Korea
- , which we know is advanced today,
- competing with Japan. A country that
- has no natural resource wealth. Most of
- their land is what? Uncultivable and
- they don't even have natural wealth.
- But they worked hard when Korea
- demanded reparations from Japan because
- Japan colonized them and mistreated
- them. When Japan asked, "What do you
- want?" They wanted technology transfer.
- They wanted technology transfer. Japan
- gave them technology. Whereas Indonesia
- , which was once colonized by Japan,
- when receiving war reparations, didn't
- ask for technology but asked for what?
- To have the Musi bridge built. Do you
- want things instant, do you want to
- look fast? Fast progress, fast
- appearance, right? But education for
- the people remains stagnant, not
- developing at all. It means we crave
- what is instant. We aren't truly
- educating our people to become
- knowledgeable individuals capable of
- producing such technology, or using the
- technology provided to produce and
- drive progress. Now Korea has become a
- country truly able to compete with
- Japan. Including Taiwan, a small nation
- that had nothing. Meanwhile, we, the
- Muslims in Indonesia, are left behind.
- Even Malaysia, in the 70s or even the
- 80s, was still looking for teachers to
- teach in Malaysia. Their students
- interned at Pertamina. They studied at
- UI and various universities in
- Indonesia. Then, uniquely, how did
- Malaysia view Indonesia? As an idol and
- a benchmark. But if we look now, we
- have been left behind by Malaysia,
- which once viewed us with such
- admiration. I remember in the 70s, when
- Koreans came to Indonesia, they were
- amazed. We still remember the
- Anniversary Cup Football Tournament in
- Jakarta, where the Koreans came to
- Indonesia. We considered them what?
- Still old-fashioned. They saw Indonesia
- and were amazed. Subhanallah. Time
- passes, and those who work earnestly,
- those who are honest, those who are
- serious about building their nation,
- yes, and practice the knowledge they
- learn, they move forward. Meanwhile, we
- Muslims, from time to time, experience
- decline. From time to time, we
- experience decline. How could Allah
- fulfill His promise to us if we
- trivialize and ignore the religious
- guidance that Allah revealed and was
- seriously conveyed by His Messenger for
- us to practice? Yet, we expect Allah's
- promise? And how will we progress and
- develop rapidly? Every mistake we make,
- we always link it to Allah's destiny,
- instead of reflecting on ourselves.
- Whereas people outside of Islam, when
- what they make or do fails, they don't
- blame Allah's destiny. They check and
- research what flaws exist in what they
- created. Like the TWA plane that sank
- in the Atlantic, they immediately
- grounded all similar planes before they
- found the flaw in the aircraft. After
- they found the flaw and fixed the
- system, they flew again. The Concorde
- plane, because it experienced what?
- Experienced failure, yes. Immediately,
- all Concorde flights were stopped.
- Until they found the error, they
- finally stopped Concorde flights
- because it was deemed what? There was a
- defect or error in the plane. If we
- Muslims experience anything, it's "
- Allah's destiny." Covid spreading
- rampant, it's "Allah's destiny." We
- forget that Allah's destiny is neutral.
- It is neutral. If we put our hand into
- fire, it burns, as Allah ordained fire
- to be burning and hot. Don't say that
- if it's not our destiny to burn, we
- won't burn. What is that called?
- Denying Allah. Denying the laws. If we
- take a knife and stab our own heart
- while saying, "If it's not my time to
- die, I won't die." That is a violation
- of Allah's decree. Why is that? Human
- life is governed by laws and rules. If
- we violate and break these laws, it
- will cause damage to our lives.
- Therefore, Muslims must truly improve
- their understanding of religion
- correctly. This religion is a set of
- legal rules, what is it called? Norms
- of Sharia or takdir tasyri'i (
- legislative decree). Allah's decree
- which is the Sharia directly
- established by Allah for us to use as a
- guide to manage our lives with peace
- and goodness. Then, besides takdir
- tasyri'i, there is takdir takwini or
- natural norms. Laws discovered by
- humans, be it laws of physics,
- astronomy, and so on, are part of
- takdir takwini. They don't come from
- the West, they don't come from Einstein
- , they don't come from Newton, they
- don't come from where? From scientists
- wherever they may be. But these laws
- are things they study from the norms
- found in this universe. Thus various
- branches of science were born, biology,
- geology, astronomy, including physics.
- Those are all results of human research
- on Allah's laws found in the universe.
- Now, if we betray these Sharia norms,
- do not expect Allah's pleasure or
- Allah's support to come to us. Likewise
- , if we betray, betray what norms?
- Natural norms or takdir takwini that
- come from Allah, it is impossible for
- us to produce what? What we desire. For
- example, if someone wants to make opor
- (curry), do they have to follow the
- rules? If they just toss in spices
- without measuring, then say, "If it's
- Allah's will to be opor, it will be,"
- that's impossible. You must follow the
- rules. But we Muslims want to be
- careless and expect to produce
- something of what kind? Something truly
- orderly and perfect. This is impossible
- . Now, we find that the understanding
- of religion in our society is mostly
- like this. The mistakes they experience
- , the setbacks that happen to them, as
- well as diseases that spread, they
- attribute to Allah's decree. But
- strangely, their successes, they claim
- as their own efforts. The earthquake
- that occurred in Aceh which caused the
- tsunami. They say it's fate,
- the decree of Allah Subhanahu wa ta'ala
- . Humans do not research, they do not
- study the causes behind everything at
- all. Besides natural causes, there are
- also causes that return to human
- actions. Because Allah Subhanahu wa
- ta'ala says, "Doharal fasadu fil barri
- wal bahri bima kasabat aidinnas."
- Corruption has appeared on land and sea
- because of what the hands of men have
- earned. So when Allah Subhanahu wa
- ta'ala revealed the first verse to His
- prophet, it started with His word, "
- Iqra bismi rabbikalladzi khalaq." Read
- in the name of your Lord who created.
- Khalaqal insana min. at a time when the
- Arab nation lived in darkness, drowning
- in darkness. Far from education. It
- turns out Allah Subhanahu wa ta'ala, in
- the very first verse revealed in the
- Qur'an. Allah Subhanahu wa ta'ala
- invites the Arab nation to think about
- what? To think more deeply, far beyond
- what? Their environment and nature.
- That is very visionary. Truly very
- visionary, inviting them to think ahead
- , right?
- If today, scholars, well, they adjust
- their speech to what? To ignorant
- people. So it is not the ignorant who
- are lifted to become knowledgeable.
- Instead, scholars adjust their speech
- to the ignorant. Ignorant people who
- like to speak foully, speak unkindly,
- and are arrogant. The scholars end up
- speaking like that too. The laypeople
- should be invited to what? To move
- forward. Now, look at how in such a
- backward era, left behind in darkness,
- where science had not yet developed
- among them. Allah Subhanahu wa ta'ala
- invited them to open their minds. "
- Alladzi khalaqal insana min," who has
- created the being called human, this
- man and woman. "Min alaq." Back then,
- they said what is "alaq"? A clot of
- blood. It turns out the word "alaq" in
- Arabic comes from the root "aliq ya'lu.
- "
- Which is attaching.
- Something that clings. Something that
- adheres. When humans, well, perform
- fertilization or when fertilization
- occurs between sperm and the ovum, the
- egg from the woman. Subhanallah. Inside
- the womb, when fertilization occurs, it
- creates what is called a zygote. For
- what? For its survival, Allah lets it
- attach to the wall of the womb. Similar
- to a leech. Attached to the womb wall.
- Back then, before scientific
- discoveries, before humans could see
- the condition of a child's growth at
- that early stage, they only said what?
- A clot of blood, according to their
- understanding. It turns out. The more
- accurate meaning describes something
- that clings to the womb wall, so weak
- and dependent in its life on what? On
- the mercy of Allah Subhanahu wa ta'ala.
- "Khalaqal insana min alaq." After that,
- Allah Subhanahu wa ta'ala invites
- humans to open their horizons of
- thought. "Iqra," read, without
- mentioning the object. Inviting us to
- learn, to be knowledgeable. Do not let
- ourselves become passive people, who
- are what? Who only drift along with our
- desires, our worldly pleasures,
- celebrating, but not learning from what
- we see, learning from what we hear. So,
- instead of moving forward day by day,
- because we drift along with our lusts
- and the temptations of the devil, we
- become dull-witted, without reason,
- becoming lazy people who possess no
- fighting spirit at all. People like
- this will have no hope of making
- improvements among their nation. Read,
- "warabbukal akram." And your Lord who
- is most generous, His mercy and
- generosity are abundant at every moment
- . But others are the ones taking
- Allah's generosity, while you, the
- Muslims, are instead doing what?
- Closing your doors, closing your
- windows, closing the curtains, living
- in darkness, frustrated. Then you say
- it is the destiny of Allah Subhanahu wa
- ta'ala. "Iqra," read. And your Lord is
- the Most Generous. Indeed, your Lord is
- Al-Akram, the Most Generous. He who
- taught by the pen. Who taught us
- various kinds of knowledge through the
- medium of a pen. Through the pen, Allah
- teaches various kinds of knowledge. He
- taught man that which he knew not.
- Teaching the creature called man
- everything he did not know until he
- becomes knowledgeable, a scientist, a
- scholar. Instead of arrogance or pride,
- it should make him grateful before
- Allah, humble before His greatness, and
- share his knowledge among mankind.
- Inviting them to advance in
- enlightenment. Not using his knowledge
- to fool the public, not using his
- knowledge to exploit the public through
- their ignorance. Now, we witness in our
- country that truly religion is no
- longer what? No longer something we use
- as a life guide to live in harmony with
- , but religion is made merely into
- discourse or a tool to seek worldly
- gain. Then we incite, divide among
- mankind, pitting them against each
- other. Instead of actually bringing
- enlightenment to them. Different from
- the teachings of the Qur'an which are
- visionary, seeing what? Seeing forward,
- inviting the Muslim community to
- advance. Try to reflect on the verses
- of the Qur'an that are rarely
- contemplated, which speak of the cosmic
- verses. The verses
- of the universe.
- The cosmic verses are so amazing, yet
- rarely read. But what is often conveyed
- among the people? The differences
- between those who perform Qunut and
- those who do not. Those who do 11 or 23
- Rak'ahs of Tarawih. The differences in
- placing hands on the chest or below the
- navel, or moving our fingers. That is
- what is discussed among the people,
- making the community increasingly
- regressive and truly what? Losing their
- common sense, then carried away by
- hatred. Hating one another. If this is
- the kind of religion, this is a
- religion that will truly destroy its
- people, making them a laughingstock. So
- , there is no other way for us but to
- return to the religion of Allah. Making
- it our guide in life. We live in
- harmony with religion by truly honoring
- the greatness and majesty of Allah.
- Then, as commanded by Allah.
- Yes, this is a problem, Ustaz. The
- problem from the earlier explanation is
- that if we want to advance, it must be
- accompanied by righteous deeds. Now,
- the righteous deeds have already been
- explained. Meanwhile, we see Ustaz who
- should be the sectoral leaders in this
- progress are preaching things that are,
- you know, trivial and funny. Because
- the references they read also reflect
- that kind of thing. We often hear that
- women were created from a crooked rib.
- It ends up becoming a joke on a pulpit
- that should have been used to wake
- people up to strive and become people
- who are serious about their righteous
- deeds. But it only becomes a subject of
- jokes like this, Ustaz. Allah Subhanahu
- wa ta'ala truly hates those who treat
- the religion of Allah as a game and a
- joke. To the point that Allah Subhanahu
- wa ta'ala reminds His Prophet. And
- leave those who take their religion as
- amusement and diversion. They are
- deluded by the life of this world. If
- you encounter people who treat the
- verses of Allah as a game, as a joke,
- or as mockery, what should you do? You
- turn away and leave them until they
- switch to another topic of conversation
- . Even when the Prophet was still in
- Mecca, he was commanded to avoid and
- leave them. If you forget, as soon as
- you remember, you should not sit with
- them any longer. Then, when the Prophet
- moved to Medina, Allah Subhanahu wa
- ta'ala again reminded the Prophet and
- the Muslims, "Waq nazala' alikum
- kitabum.""When you hear the verses of
- Allah being denied and mocked, do not
- sit with them until they engage in
- another conversation." Allah has
- revealed to you in the Book, hinting at
- what He mentioned in Surah Al-An'am,
- that if you hear the verses of Allah
- Subhanahu wa ta'ala being denied or
- mocked, you should not sit and gather
- with them. "Innakum idan mithluhum." If
- you continue to sit with them, then it
- means you are just like them. Allah
- will group you together with them. "
- Innallaha jamiul munafiqina wal
- kafirina fi jahannama jamiah." Indeed,
- Allah will gather the hypocrites who
- treat Allah's verses as a game together
- with the disbelievers in the fire of
- Hell. Now, we see many ustads and kyais
- on the pulpit using religion as what?
- As a material for games. Jokes and
- laughter. Then it is considered what?
- Considered*dakwah bil hikmah*(preaching
- with wisdom). It is not preaching to
- invite people to Allah, but preaching
- to invite people to themselves. The
- people are exploited for their own
- interests, then they claim that this is
- preaching for Allah. Whereas they have
- truly damaged what? The image and
- opinion of our society. So that when
- invited to be serious, they do not
- respond. But if invited to play, laugh,
- and be humorous, they respond with
- great enthusiasm. Therefore, notice the
- preachings with the most viewers on
- YouTube; they are preachings with humor
- , laughter, and jokes. But if it is
- serious preaching, inviting them to
- return to Allah, reflect on His holy
- verses, and strive in His path, they
- will not respond. So returning to our
- study this morning, Allah Subhanahu wa
- ta'ala truly promises those who believe
- and do righteous deeds that He will
- make them successors on earth. But it
- is not just an empty promise; it is a
- promise accompanied by what? Conditions
- . Therefore, in Surah Muhammad, Allah
- says, "In tansurullaha yansurkum." If
- what you are fighting for and defending
- is Allah's religion and His pleasure,
- Allah will surely defend you. But if
- you are fighting for worldly gains
- while using Allah's religion as a front
- , do not expect Allah to step in and
- provide help for you. Therefore,
- Allah's promise to the Children of
- Israel: "O Children of Israel, remember
- My favor which I have bestowed upon you
- , and fulfill your covenant with Me, so
- that I will fulfill My covenant with
- you." O Children of Israel, remember
- the blessings that I have bestowed upon
- you. Fulfill the agreement that you
- made with Me. I will fulfill My
- covenant to you. "When the Children of
- Israel fulfilled their covenant, Allah
- fulfilled His covenant to them. But
- when they betrayed it, Allah eventually
- let enemy forces seize Jerusalem,
- ravage it, even expel them, destroy
- their sons, and humiliate their women.
- May Allah protect us from that. Finally
- , they were left destitute in the
- wilderness in a state of disgrace,
- separated from their beloved families.
- Likewise, when the Muslim community in
- the Prophet's time fought alongside our
- Prophet with sincerity, purity, and
- piety, fulfilling the discipline that
- Allah Subhanahu wa ta'ala commanded,
- they achieved victory. But as soon as
- they broke that discipline, failing to
- obey the commands of Allah and His
- Messenger, they suffered defeat. Let us
- look at the Battle of Uhud, what
- happened? The leader was our Prophet
- Muhammad, sallallahu alaihi wasallam.
- The same goes for the Battle of Hunayn.
- Hunayn.
- These are two lessons. One, in the
- Battle of Uhud, during the early wars
- in Medina. The second, a battle that
- occurred after the Conquest of Mecca.
- Where the number of Muslims was greater
- than their enemies. At that time, they
- felt certain they would defeat their
- enemies, filled with pride and
- arrogance. Ultimately, they suffered
- defeat. Most of them fled in chaos when
- facing critical conditions. Meanwhile,
- those who remained steadfast with the
- Messenger were those who fought
- faithfully and honestly alongside our
- Prophet Muhammad, sallallahu alaihi
- wasallam. Eventually, after the defeat,
- they attained victory—not won by
- sheer numbers, but by those truly
- sincere in fighting for the sake of
- Allah. Now, pay close attention to the
- question posed by the Muslims who
- suffered defeat in the Battle of Uhud,
- in verse 165 of Surah Al-Imran. Verse
- 165. of Surah Al-Imran." A-wa lamma
- asabatkum musibatun qad asabtum
- mithlayha qultum anna hadha. "Do you
- ask yourselves when you are struck by a
- calamity, having suffered a defeat?" Wa
- qad asabtum mithlayha. "Even though
- before that, before the Battle of Uhud,
- what had you done? You had achieved
- victory many times over, defeating your
- enemies. Now, at the Battle of Uhud,
- you were struck by the calamity of
- defeat. You ask," Anna hadha? "Why did
- all of this happen? Are we not the
- Muslims who fight for the truth and are
- led directly by the Messenger of Allah?
- Allah Subhanahu wa ta'ala answers," Qul
- huwa min 'indi anfusikum. "" Say, all
- of this is a result of your own actions
- in failing to obey the Messenger. "
- Where the troops left their posts meant
- to guard the rear of the enemy or the
- rear of the Muslims. It turned out that
- because of their desire and love for
- the world, they rushed down and left
- their posts. Finally, from the verge of
- victory, they suffered defeat." Qul
- huwa min' indi anfusikum, innallaha '
- ala kulli shay-in qadir. "Indeed, Allah
- is All-Powerful over all things. Allah
- could grant you victory. But if you
- were not taught a lesson for your
- transgressions, you would assume that
- your actions were correct. Therefore,
- in the continuation," wa ma asabakum
- yawmal-taqal-jam'ani fa bi-idhnillah. "
- What befell you when the two armies met
- and you suffered a defeat? Everything
- is by the permission of Allah.
- Walya'lamal mukminin. With the aim of
- knowing those who truly believe.
- Walya'lamalladzina nafaqu. And also to
- know who the hypocrites are. Finally,
- through that trial, those who were
- truly sincere became apparent. Those
- who were truly sincere. Then, in which
- surah does Allah Subhanahu wa ta'ala
- recount this? In Surah Al-Imran, also
- verse 152. The cause of their defeat.
- Walaqad sadaqakumullahu wa'dahu id
- tahussunahum bi'idznihi. Indeed, Allah
- has proven the truth of His promise to
- you when you, what? Defeated your
- enemies, yes. Destroyed them by His
- permission in the Battle of Badr. Hatta
- idza fasyiltum. Likewise, at the
- beginning of the Battle of Uhud. The
- Muslims defeated them, destroyed their
- strength. Hatta fasyiltum watanaza'tum
- fil amri wa'ashaitum ba'dimaa araakum
- maa tuhibbun. Until when you
- experienced failure Hatta fasyiltum
- watanaza'tum fil amri—and you began
- to dispute the matter, no longer
- obedient, submissive, and united, you
- began to dispute with one another.
- Wa'ashaitum ba'dimaa araakum maa
- tuhibbun. You began to oppose, to
- disobey, after Allah showed you what
- you love of the ornaments of the world.
- Faminkum man yuridud dunya waminkum man
- yuridul akhirah. Among you are those
- who desire the world, the spoils of war
- , and there are also those who desire
- the hereafter. Then Allah turned you
- away from the victory that was almost
- in your hands to test you. Wa'afaa'
- ankum—and Allah has forgiven your
- mistakes even though they caused such
- great casualties. Wallahu dzuu fadlin '
- alal mu'minin. Wa'afaa' ankum—Allah
- has forgiven you, and Allah possesses
- great bounty for the believers. So,
- Allah explains the cause of the defeat
- here, because of what? Because they
- failed, disputed in their affairs, were
- tempted by worldly life, until they
- disobeyed the command of the Messenger
- of Allah, peace be upon him. Even
- though the leader was the Messenger,
- the army suffered defeat. So, to
- achieve victory, we must fulfill its
- conditions. Now, have we, the Muslims,
- fulfilled the conditions required by
- Allah Subhanahu wa ta'ala? Adhering to
- the norms of His Sharia, and also
- adhering to what norms? His cosmic
- norms, the natural laws of His decrees,
- yes, which are regulated by Allah and
- give rise to various kinds of
- scientific knowledge. What are we, the
- Muslim community, actually? Standing in
- the middle of the stairs, it's similar
- to someone in the middle of a staircase
- . Not reaching the top, and not at the
- bottom either. Not bound by religion.
- Even though we claim to be Muslims, we
- are not bound by religious guidance.
- Then they consider those who are bound
- by religion as extremists, extre-
- radical groups. Because they are bound
- to what? To Allah's guidance, and they
- want to return to Allah and invite the
- people to return to Allah. But on the
- other hand, in science, in worldly
- affairs, it turns out they are also,
- what? Not in, what? A good position. So
- , neither this world nor the hereafter.
- Then they hope that Allah, by His
- destiny, will grant them victory. At
- the time they are experiencing what?
- Difficulties. Only then do they perform
- istighatha, praying and asking for
- Allah to send down His mercy upon them.
- As soon as they are comfortable again,
- they forget and commit sins against
- Allah. If we do not wake up after this
- COVID, I fear something even more
- terrifying than COVID will come. Allah
- tests us so that we are serious about
- our religion. So that we truly respect
- the demands of Allah Subhanahu wa
- ta'ala, the benefits of which return to
- us, not to Allah Subhanahu wa ta'ala,
- with His guidance meant to lead us
- toward a better and more noble life,
- just as experienced by our Prophet
- Muhammad sallallahu 'alaihi wasallam
- and the companions who fought by his
- side, and as experienced also by the
- Prophet of Allah David, and the Prophet
- of Allah Solomon, when the Children of
- Israel were obedient to Allah Subhanahu
- wa ta'ala and obedient to the prophets
- and messengers sent among them. So, if
- someone asks us," Why are Muslims
- backward, while those outside of Islam
- are advanced? "The simple answer is
- that we, as Muslims, are firstly not
- bound to the religion of Allah, and the
- teachings of Islam are merely clothing
- and packaging. Secondly, we also do not
- care at all about science, nor are we
- honest and trustworthy in carrying out
- the commands of Allah or what is
- required by science. In fact, many
- Muslims still assume there is a
- dichotomy between religion and science.
- They assume that religion and science
- cannot be unified. This is actually a
- call from the colonizers who want to
- keep us ignorant. Science comes from
- Allah, as it is the laws of nature that
- Allah has established. Likewise, the
- Sharia of Allah comes from Allah. How
- could there possibly be a contradiction
- between the two? So let us, brothers
- and sisters who are blessed by Allah
- Subhanahu wa ta'ala, come together. Let
- us be truly serious in practicing the
- religion of Allah. Serious in pursuing
- knowledge, in learning. Do not become
- passive people, people who only want to
- enjoy things instantly, follow their
- desires, be euphoric, and do not let
- religion be conveyed as a joke or a
- game. All of these are things that will
- invite the punishment of Allah
- Subhanahu wa ta'ala, which will bring
- disaster upon us and our nation, and
- shame us among other nations. Glory be
- to You, O Allah, and with Your praise.
- I bear witness that there is no god but
- You, I seek Your forgiveness and repent
- to You, and I apologize to you all. May
- the peace, mercy, and blessings of
- Allah be upon you. Alhamdulillah,
- brothers and sisters, we just listened
- to Ulumul Quran with Ustaz Husin Alatas
- and Ustaz Alfan, discussing the theme"
- Why Muslims Are Backward While
- Non-Muslims Are Advanced. "Everything
- has been answered, right? God willing.
- Thank you, Ustaz Husin and Ustaz Alfan.
- Alhamdulillah. Alright, we will meet
- again next week. I, Muhammad Krishna,
- Ondi Saputra, Bima Candra, then also
- Fahri, then Anis Mual Im, and Yusuf
- Subangkit, bid you farewell. May Allah
- grant success and guidance. May the
- peace, mercy, and blessings of Allah be
- upon you.
